2nd hand Sky + box

    Hi- had a look to see if this was already answered but couldnt see any.... sorry if I'm duplicating.

    I have reg sky box and want to get sky + box without paying the 250 sky quoted me. If I manage to get a second hand + box, is it just a matter of plugging it in & inserting my own viewing card. Or is it more complicated?

    Where are you getting a price tag of €250...thats nutz..What you want to do is to upgrade to a new HD Skyplus box without the hd pack...this will cost you €159 and that includes the install.

    The install includes the supply and fitting of a Quad Lnb and running of a second cable from the dish to the room your sky box is at present.

    If you get a second hand sky+ you will need a quad lnb and second cable ran as well.

    Hi haze,

    You current sky viewing card is paired/matched with your regular box. To use it in your new sky plus box you need to ring sky and tell them you've changed your box and ask them to pair your card with the new box. It's a standard request they deal with all the time , I'm not sure if you can use the the sky + function without a sky + sub but the Sky rep will tell you more.

    once you are paying a sub (to watch any programs) the record ,pause etc function will work. once you ring sky to activate it .

    you will need another feed from the sat dish (and new lnb probably) to record one program and watch another.

    Cheers, last time I rang sky it was 150 for the box and 99 for installation but that may have changed. That was prob a quote for the a plus box rather than hd box though. Thanks for the info everyone:)

    They dont do Sky+ boxes anymore. You will get a SkyHD box without the HD channels if you upgrade to Sky+
