Steam and Source Engine for Linux

Steam and the source engine coming to Linux
We have confirmed that Valve's latest and popular titles like Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Team Fortress 2 are among the first of the Steam Linux titles, similar to the Mac OS X support. The released Linux client should be available by the end of summer.

Interesting, I'd say a large part of me not gaming much is the hassle in switching between OSes, there'll probably be just a handful of games available for Linux through Steam anyway but that's better than none, and might encourage a few developers who already offer games through Steam (or plan to) to consider Linux if they don't already.

    Thoughts?

The Steam client will be native to Linux but nothing will be changing as regards games that you cannot play in Linux, they will still not be playable, due to DX10 or whatever.

It's good that Steam gives some recognition to Linux but it's not gonna change the gaming landscape or anything.

Well from what I've quoted they're saying Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Team Fortress 2 should be available (unless I misread it) and hint at Portal 2, none of which I had expected to see released for Linux.

Might be only a tiny minority of games, but they're big name games with massive followings. I'd rather a few of those than a few hundred buggy games no-one has heard of.

Oh right, yeah those are the Valve games. That would be a big deal alright, to get them running natively in the Linux.

That article is garbage. Vavle have not stated anything on the matter for a very long time. Until Valve pipes up, it's all speculation.
That Phronix guy is full of Sh1t for the most part. Every tiny tidbit of info is blown way, way, way out of proportion. A tit of the highest
order if I may say so. Where are the daily independant getting their info from? Phronix? Don't make me laugh. Don't get your hopes up
people. Remember how UT3 out?. Yeah, I thought so. id software and the indies in general deserve our cold hard cash, not Valve.

Check out the links in the article (including download links to the valve website). Looks pretty certain.

I sure hope so. Even though I am not a huge fan of steam(used to have an account though) It would give far, far more attention to Linux in terms of gaming. The fact that the telegraph didn't mention Valve as a source
is a bit dissapointing. As of know, the support for Linux does not exist. It's still speculation.
