Hi there, Im looking to possibly apply for a professional job abroad but dont know where to start. I dont want to waste my time on the millions of random agencies out there with some dodgey roles.

Does anyone have any good recommendations on decent/reputable international business recruiters that can place you? I have a honours business degree and post-grad in PR

Locations I'd like the opportunity to work in would be California, Dubai, New York, and generally any major business city with a attractive climate....(not london!)

Anyone any experience doing this? looking for jobs on the global market?

Any advice or pointers on decent places/agencies to check out would really help

    Thanks folks

You're probably better off looking within the EU. You haven't a hope of getting a job in the US and god knows why anyone would want to work in Dubai!

Thats not really a great help to me now is it? and plus you've obviously never been to Dubai and if you have - probably didn't experience it right

Working anywhere else in Europe apart from the UK there is language barrier if you haven't noticed.

I'm looking for any recommendations on reputable global recruiters or agencies if anyone has any suggestions on what to do or who would be good to contact for the USA, Dubai, (any English business speaking destinations perhaps) ?...looking for a change

Like I said, you've no chance of getting a job in the US. The EU would be your best best, or possibly Australia.

www.monster.com - that's your best bet, other than that google recruiters in specific regions and start calling/emailing. It's not exactly rocket science.

As MM says, unless you have a US passport/greencard or an astro physicist you wont get a visa for the US.

UK, Middle East, Canada, Oz/NZ, Hong Kong, India are you're best bets.

lack of alcohol and strict policies/rules on public displays of affection (or maybe I'm reading news reports and getting mixed up)

But lot of people who go over there seem to be happy:confused:
Have you been there? Do you know anyone who has worked there?

Well his/her point was that it's very difficult to get a job in the US without a green card! It's not as simple as applying for a job and, in the event you get hired, moving over. You need a H2B visa which is sponsored by your employer and to get that they have to prove to their government that they cannot find an American who is qualified to do that job. Hence you'd need to be really specifically qualified to have any chance.

Would your best bet not be to try get a job with a UK/Irish company that has international operations and try work abroad that way?

Dubai is STRICT Islam. Like no pork, no women allowed out by themselves, burka wearing, teetotal.

Its a culture shock and a half. The only reason its on the world stage is because of oil and lots of it.

It depends on your line of work. Plenty of jobs in sunny places in my line, but that's pretty specialist. Depending on your skills I'd seek out recruiters who are focussed on your profession/target industry. They know who is hiring and will be able to size up your value pretty damn quick.

Canada and US require VISAs, which are tough to get (unless they need your skills). You will not get a liveable job in Dubai without oil industry experience or a lot of hospitality experience or specialist construction experience. It's also hot as feck, debt riddled and due to religious fundamentalism you can go to jail for a little drink or a little kiss.

Basically, depends on what your skills are.

Register with LinkedIn, and join some groups related to the places you'd be willing to work. There are loads of them, and most of them carry links to jobs available.

    misinformed much????

As a rule of thumb for females, dress Western in Dubai, a little more conservative in Abu Dhabi, and cover your skin in Sharjah, bar your face, neck and hands.

Such absolute twonk from mis informed people. OP came on here looking for advice, not sensationalist rubbish.

in that logic why would you want to work in Poland? sure aren't they all mad catholics!

thats just plain and simply , untrue , i doubt you have ever been there

OP, in regards to Dubai, while I would not rule it out, because there are some truly wonderful business opportunities there, if you are female (which I assume you are) then I would look at Canada/US/NZ/Oz instead. I would say that it would be difficult for a woman to live/work in a male dominated country like the UAE but I'm sure that thousands do and are quite happy with there life there.

I have to been to Dubai a few times over the last few years (both on business and for pleasure) and while it is amazing place to experience visually it is quite soulless and the rules & regulations are extremely strict. I would personally not like to live there for those last reasons and also because the heat in the summer is absolutely ridiculous (45° on average during the midday).

Ignore the blatant ignorance here OP ;) that's my first suggestion.

Secondly, I suggest looking at Newzealand, Australia or Canada. From what I hear from my mates in these places, it's not difficult to secure work.

I think your best bet might be to give up on the PR and use whatever accounting credits you have from your degree to get started with one of the major accounting firms here in Dublin and get sent on secondment.

I can't imagine anyone hiring a foreigner to do PR for them. The entire industry relies on contacts and the strength of your connections to the media which is something you won't have anywhere else unless you've lived there for a few years...

Ignorance is a horrible disease my friend.I've been to Dubai every year for the last 5 years and I haven't seen what you're talking about. If you cant go to another country because of "no pork" then thats a bit of a issue to be honest

I also think NZ, Australia and Canada are your best bets. I don't know much about Dubai except they don't have (not much) income tax.

As mentioned before getting in the U.S. is almost impossible. You can go to college there on a student visa and are allowed a couple hours work every week. In order to obtain a H1B work visa you will have to be sponsored by a company and they have very limited spaces which are usually taken by indian computer programmers working for Microsoft etc.
Even if you could get sponsored for a H1B visa once thats up (6years) and your company doesn't sponsor your for a GC you have to leave the country with no option.
In Canada as far as I know things are much easier. Students who graduate there and live for a few years in Canada can apply for permanent residency and live there forever.
Australia is also looking for certain workers. But many of them are hairdressers, landscapers etc. and not that many office workers as far as I know. NZ might be similar.

Look at www.expatnetwork.com it's a good site for construction work overseas, not sure about other professions. Good luck
