Folks, any thoughts on the timber. I have reps for Scandanavian Imported versus Balcas native. Any pros and cons with either, ignoring price difference!

    Hi Tred,
This is something that I haven't even thought about. I'll be starting roofing in about 4 weeks also and just assumed my roof timber will be supplied by a local builder provider, so white deal or the like. Why are you looking at other options if you don't mind me asking?

Experienced roofers mentioned the difference in quality. I actually did a search here again, against "native" and got some posts that were raised allready. biggest difference is because of climate and how trees are grown, the scandanavian stuff is a lot stronger.

My roofer simply said to make sure I got Balcas timber when ordering it. I didnt question him, just made sure I checked.

I bought mine from a timber yard in wicklow. Got it delivered to my site for 1500 yoyos cheaper than a well know builder providers. The timber was excellent quality...

The bulk of your roofing timbers will have to be structural stress graded and complying with IS444 - have a read through this document.

Edit: Have a look at this also

for me, if the timber meets IS444, and the roof is designed by an engineer, then I would get the cheapest there is! You may regret spending excess on hidden, adequate, structural elements when it comes to picking out floor tiles for your bathroom.
