Honda Accord 2006 - Problem with entertainment system

    Hi,
Im new to posting on this site but Im wondering would anybody know why my new 2006 Honda Accord Audio system wont work.
First of all, I know I do not have the Sat Navigation Dvd installed as I have not received it from the dealer yet.
The radio, AC controls will not work. When I press the AC control it tells me to start the engine, (its already started ) Pressing the CD button will allow me to use that but while driving I cannot use the radio only CD. Also when the ignition is not fully turned on I can listen to the radio, tune it in etc. My dealer in the North told me this is due to not having the disc but I want to know is this true? If not I will be bringing it back to get sorted.

Someone with some bit of knowledge on the Honda Accord might know what is going on or seen this issue before.

    Thanks.

Not normal. Bring it back to the dealer. (I presume they're not a Honda dealer?)

Normal. The key is in the "Accessory" position. Other stuff works too, like the cigar lighter. Consult your manual (if you didn't get one, get the dealer to supply one)

    Thanks for the feedback.

I was thinking the Radio and AC should have been working without the DVD. Its not a honda dealer that I bought it from. Could bring about a few issues I reckon.
Balls to that anyway. Im now wondering how much it will cost me to get it fixed. Its the whole system that will need to be fixed i reckon.

"Normal. The key is in the "Accessory" position. Other stuff works too, like the cigar lighter. Consult your manual (if you didn't get one, get the dealer to supply one) " The 12v connection is working the finest. But the rest of its issues are the problem.

Is it still inside the 3 year warranty period?

Well its a 06 so it would suggest not.
There are only 74k miles on her though so I dont know if that is covered under warranty.

Oops,, forgot the year for a bit :o

    It's whichever comes first, age/mileage.

Might be worth asking a main dealer if they'd come across it before anyway.

The same thing happens on the jdm imports when the battery has been disconnected, you need the satnav disc to reload the software and you should be fine.

Cheers eireal, I brought it down to the Honda dealer yesterday evening and he says it should be fine once all the software is installed. Anything that relies on the sat nav operation wont work which apparently includes AC and the radio. Dont ask me how it requires it but it does require the functionality of the Sat Nav display.
Ill keep you posted once I have the disc.
    Thanks

I'd be curious too. A friend has an 05 Accord with satnav that's doing more or less the same as your's. He has the DVD disc tho...

Maybe the software has gotten corrupted on the Entertainment System.
Trying googling to see if you can force an upgrade of Software from the DVD onto the Entertainment System.
Or try over on thaoc.co.uk (Honda Accord Forum)

It's possible to force a software upgrade onto the headunit, I dont have the instructions to hand but I tried it on my own car before. Generally you just need to insert the disc into the dvd player and it uploads and boots itself, doesnt take a minute to do, theres no need to leave the disc in place once done either.

Hi guys, just to keep any of you that were interested in the outcome of this. I got the DVD last night and installed all the software etc but there is still no luck with the Radio or Air Conditioning system.
They still will not work even with the sat nav working correctly, I was begining to think it had something to do with the Voice controls etc but it doesnt look like it.

Not happy at all as it looks like the whole system is f**ked!
If anybody knows of a resolution or has seen it before please let me know.

    Thanks again.

Did you just put the DVD into the DVD-ROM drive?
Im thinking that you have to "re-flash" the ROM of the headunit, by maybe pushing down some buttons in a certain order.

    like this ...
On my 2006 UK Accord, you can force the satnav to downgrade it's internal software to the version on the disc as follows (this is assuming you have a disc that should work).

Hold down the following three buttons to enter the service menu: MAP, MENU and PREVIOUS (on my system, these are the 3 buttons under the screen on the left).

When the menu comes up, select Version.

This will then tell you the software version installed and the one on the disc.

    To force a software download
    , press the download button.

I must stress that I can't guarantee that this will work. It works on my Accord.(eg: installed a 3.05 disc. Put the 3.01 disc back in, gave the 'older software error'. I did as stated above and the 3.01 disc worked again).

    Hi Billbond4,
thanks for that information. I have done all of what you said but still no joy.

I ran the diagnostic tool from there and it says there is a problem with the AC. Its Red in the circuit diagram where everything else is green tellin me I have a problem. I reckon it is the sensor that tells the AC that the engine is on is not working properly.
This may also tie in with the the radio problem.(ie the sensor)

Have you seen these errors before? Like buttons not working etc due to the software that is downloaded.
Where abouts are you in the country, Im located in Galway.

    Thanks for the response.

    David
