Fuel Pump 00 Rover 45 Diesel

Need a fuel pump for a Rover 45 Diesel. Mechanic says a new one may cost €1000+ so checked on ebay, saw some in UK for 4-500. Anyone got any ideas where I might be able to get a 2nd hand one? Dublin/Dundalk/Limerick areas?

Isn't the 45 the old L series diesel and not some complex common rail jobbie. can't see a fuel pump costing that much.

The L series is not common rail as Colm says

Fuel pumps on the early L series are mechanical, however all 45s are intercooled and use a digital VP30 Bosch axial piston pump with built in ECU, not cheap and not too uncommon a fail either. The intercooled 400s and 600s had a VP37 pump. So be sure not to source a pump from a 200/400 or 600, same engine different pump.

Thanks for above. No joy so far, looking like it will have to be reconditioned at cost of about 800 incl labour.

Is it worth putting 800 into a 00' 45? It's a massive chunk of the cars value...
Surely you would get it cheaper somewhere...

I used these boys before to supply a recon Bosch VP pump for an Astra three years ago: http://www.des.ie/

Also, if your Rover has an immobiliser, chances are that a second hand pump will need to be coded to the ECU to allow it to start. This is certainly the case with the Opels and Fords which use similar VP pumps. The recon pumps supplied above are usually "plug and play" and need no coding.
