That's what i'd like to know too. Otherwise you're just buying a TV that will need a DTT box added to it in the future.

only if you don't have Cable or Satellite, which is this country is a minority. I'd agree that retailers here should be selling Mpeg4-capable sets, but its still not a deal breaker.

FWIW, Pixmania are selling this, which is Full-HD and Mpeg4 for €200

No mention it even has a digital tuner at all, of any type in it at all, so chances of this yoke being DTT ready are slim..

If you're looking for mpeg 4 dvb-t, i'd go for this 23 incher instead http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-SM2333HD-1080p-Monitor-Digital/dp/tech-data/B001PN68HU/ref=de_a_smtd.

The LIDL model is gonna sound like an old transistor radio (2 x 2w rms)

Can you confirm that this picks up the new digital service from RTE etc? I see it mentions freeview but cant see anything in relation to mpeg 4 dvb-t.

Just to note that the contrast ratio on the lidl one and piximania one is low at 1,000:1 where as the samsung one on the amazon link is way better at 10,000:1

Wouldnt read into that too much really, contrast ratio's quoted by manufacturers could never be trusted and they cant now more than ever, some ridiculous figures being quoted

What does the contrast ratio represent / mean?

Ya, some chatter on the net bout it, TBF though these are standard figures with the first two being standard intro level models and the samsung being a higher level model at 10,000:1 for a similiar price and I would stay with my original message that the samsung is better. At this life stage of lcd tvs most would agree that 1000:1 is a pretty low/basic contrast.

I think a good contrast ratio of at least 10000:1 is essential for a clear picture view in night scenes if I'm right.
