    Hi Folks,

Can somebody please advise on this for me please,

I am thinking of buying a caravan, Family hoilidays and so on, I know some other peoples pet hate,

This is something along the lines of that I am thinking of buying
    http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/caravans/1171997
Will my Passat pull this comfortably ???

    Its a 2006 1.9 TDI,

Someone told me recently that to pull a caravan I need a 4x4, I am not convinced, thats why I am asking you folks.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

P.S What about insurance on these things, has anybody got ant advice on this, pulling and on site.

    Thanks Again.

Should be no bother for it, we used to tow a single axle trophy ascot caravan of similar size with a '00 1.9TDi Passat.

You'll be fine... I tow my caravan with a diesel Berlingo.. it works great.

Not true.. it is the weight that matters.. a turbo diesel will have plenty of torque anyway.. 105 or 130..

No way man, it all matters when it comes to the Di.

If the combined weight (car, caravan, wife, kids, dog, kitchen sink) exceeds 3500kg,you'll need an EB licence.Doubt it'll be near this weight though. The passat should pull this ok,just watch your braking, cornering etc

Hey it depends on what chat up line its uses!!!!!!!!!!!

It will pull it no problem, you will need those ,mirror extensions that clip on to your wing mirrors so you can see it properly etc

one thing you may have to to aswell is pump up your rear tire pressures.
id advice you to join a caravan club which gives demonstrations on weight distributions etc, don't forget to turn the headlight alignment switch to the highest setting as you car will be slanted towards the back which will rise up the front as much as 4 degrees which will blind oncoming cars, check the maximum permissible towing weight for your car and check the weight of the caravan. I've heard of people being stopped by the guards and asked to go to a weigh bridge. if the weight is over the manufactures recommendations you could be fined.

just some pointers to shed light on the caravan world. I use a shogun jeep to tow my twin axel 6 berth abbey and you wouldn't know anything is on behind until you have to brake suddenly :pac:

A lot of people missed that. Most of them drive ebay TDIs.

I was kind of expecting something like "would a TDI pull this"
