The new Volvo S60, due for release later this year, was fired out of Volvo's testing tunnel at around 30MPH, and the collision detection system should have kicked in, bringing the car automatically to a halt before hitting the truck in its path.

It didn't. Instead, the brand new car ploughed into the back of the truck in front of us, and indeed the world's press who had gathered in Sweden to see the collision detection system in action.]

    Jeasus.

Maybe it kicked in afterwards.. there's probably a message on the dash "You've just hit a truck!"...

I like the guy that keeps telling his story after the crash:
"This car is equipped with navigation and anti collision technology bla bla bla"

    No kidding? lol...

That must have been embarrasing for him anyway.

Like when Merc crashed their S class with their fancy radar at it's press launch. They found out it wasn't switched on. If you need a computer to stop you hitting another car hire a driver

This is the problem when you put in too much electronic rubbish into cars.

On the whole electronics are a good thing in cars, but I really don't like the idea of electronics removing control of something as fundamental as braking from the driver.

I'm really not comfortable with drivers thinking they don't need to worry about braking "because the car's computer will take care of that for me".

Good to see the windscreen wipers still worked, at least you'll get a clear view of what you the car hit!

All these gadgets they are putting into cars and selling them as safety aids are going to make very bad drivers out of a lot of people.

They get lazy, don't watch what they or others are doing. And worst af all is when they drive another car that didn't have the crap they are used to,then they hit the "back of the truck"
