How do you mount your bike?

I'm curious, from the window of my apartment i can see cyclists having to get off their bike and remount as people have parked their cars too close to get through the gap onto the Eastlink bridge from Fishermans Wharf.

I thought my way was normal - throw leg over then push using that leg.
However I have seen quite a few people roll with one leg on one pedal then throw other leg over.
I know from experience that the roll and throw method is a bit wobbly especially with a heavy pannier, but maybe it gets easier with practice?

What way do you start off and whats the better one?

Anyone else get drowned and frozen coming home this evening ? :( , its may, its not supposed to be like this!

With purpose and style... Leg over the handlebar. I assure you I look very cool when I do it.

yes it is, April is 'summer' without the heat, but if you want dry settled sunny weather April is where its at...usually.

As for the mount, the same as you are doing, or if in a race and someone is there to give you a push after a mech/crash then jump on saddle [get pushed] and clip in.

Something like this. I've seen cross racers demo this and it looks a hell of a lot easier than actually doing it! Can't quite manage it myself yet. Must practice.

@Blorg: one slides on to the saddle rather than land on it. That's how I was shown to do it.

More important is a stylish dismount

This gentleman has a novel take on mounting his bicycle.

Lean the bike very slightly away from you, both hands on the handlebars, left pedal at 10 o'clock, put your left foot on it, and in one fell swoop you push down with your left foot while swinging your right foot over the saddle. It takes a bit of practice.

Easiest way to practice your balance is to just roll around the place while standing on one pedal (but not in SPDs!), using your right foot to push off the ground and keep momentum. Like some kind of weird scooter.
