    I just ordered sky there.
I think I'll be getting a sky+ hd box as all new sky boxes are sky+ hd boxes as I understand.
Anyway my phone line connection is in a different room a bit of a distance away from our tv room where we'll be watching the sky+ hd box.

They said if they don't connect the sky box to the phone line it costs an extra 37 euro.
I've no problem with them connecting it to our phoneline but how do they do it if the phone line connection is in a different room from your tv.
Do they run a cable and do they charge extra for doing that or is there some way it can access the phone line remotely?

As far as I know the €37 extra charge is only for multiroom.

From my experience its up to you to connect it to a phone line, but its several years since weve had Sky installed.

tell them to get bent.icon8.gif.you don't even need to have a phone line connected for sky to operate...it's just another swizz to get more money out of people who ain't got a phone line...was genuinely told this by one of skys' customer reps when I cancelled my sub couple of months ago

Moved to satellite, and mind the langauge.

Back in the day, it was obligitary to connect it to a phone line in order to obtain the BIB subsidy. The hope was that you'd use the phone line to buy interactive services and products through Open. Since Open (now Sky Active) is no longer really a plank of Sky's business I'm not sure what the point is anymore.

You can buy a device for connecting the box to your phone through the electric wiring in the house but it costs more than €37.

just to clarify OP, is that a once-off extra €37....I seem to remember other people posting that they have to pay a full second subscritpion every month

they will connect box to phone by running cable unless there is an alternative......such as:

a wireless telephone extender from maplins will do the trick

based on recent comments, a HD box seems to be now standard even if not taking HD sub

OP, they can run a cable from the other room along the ground. You can tell the installer that you'll secure it after he's gone. Once he's gone and after you're sure your box is set up correctly, remove the cable and do what you wish with it. You will not be charged extra for the installer to do this.
