Syncing iPhone contacts/iCal with fresh install of OS X

Done a fresh install of snow leopard over the weekend and I need to sync my contacts and iCal on my iPhone to the address book and iCal on my mac. I didn't want to risk syncing the phone with iTunes because I'm afraid I'd lost iCal entries and contacts. I don't mind if I lose my music/podcasts/video as I've got them all on…
