Dealing with recruiters

I've decided to look for a new job. My previous two positions I got through recommendations/headhunting so I'm completely out of the game here.

All of the jobs on Irishjobs and similar are through recruiters.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to approach them and deal with them?

Remember a recruiter is a salesperson as such. They need a good product / candidate to put forward for a good job so you have to sell yourself to them first.

Some like you to come and meet them so they can get a look at you basically so ensure that you are presentable and they are not sending some scruff bag to their "client".

Get a good CV done up, send it to the recruiters and call around 1 hour after you send it to confirm they have received it. The reason I did this was because of the amount of crap they would receive about a position. This is what recruiters told me.

Ask the agent what they think of your CV on what you should delete, add or edit.

Type up a cover letter of your strengths, goals and success's from your career to date and use this letter to sell yourself. Its like a synopsis of your CV.

Hi Fasty, here's a blog on this very subject:

There's also a podcast you can get from iTunes, I think it's the fifth in the series: http://tinyurl.com/y9zbbbv
