Hi,my 00 vw polo driving perfect except for two small issues-

1.If i stop and then restart few minutes later it revs like mad when i restart engine.Rev counter goes really high and roaring noise.Doesent do any other time only if restart hot engine.Would this be doing any damage?

2.Carpet in back passenger floor soaking wet if i press on it-have already checked its nothing to do with bottom of doors and this seems to be only suggestion i can find on google.Originally thought something spilled-only have car a month- but no matter how much soak it still wet.Stale horrible smell if leave car for few days.

    Any advice appreciated

The reving is likely the throttle body easy fix, the wet floor is probably a missing or damaged grommet on that side of the floor, best to get it up on a lift to have a look..

Thanks a mil-do you think it would be ok to continue driving or would i need to get reving sorted out on her?Would it have any effect on upcoming nct?

I'd get it sorted before the nct shouldn't cost much, sometimes just cleaning out the throttle body sorts it but I think it's only a short term fix.

    HI,

I WOULD AGREE IT'S PROBABLY THE THROTTLE HOUSING OR POSSIBLY THE
    AIR MASS METER.
REGARDING THE WATER LEAK 00 POLO'S OFTEN HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR WIPER LEAKING DOWN INTO THE LOWEST POINT IN THE BOOT AND ONTO THE FLOOR IN THE REAR OF THE CAR. ALSO YOU COULD CHECK THAT THE BULB HOLDER IS REPLACED CORRECTLY OFTEN WHEN THE BULB IS BEING CHANGED THIS RESULTS IN REAR WATER LEAKS.

must be leaking through the hole..all Polos have a hole, is it otherwise a minter?

How high does it rev? Thermostats in Polos can be dodgy, meaning when you start it up hot, it actually thinks the engine is cold and runs rich which leads to high idle revs. But probably not much more than 2.5k rpm maybe 3k tops.
