i passed by at about half 10 and there was a huge crowd, the cherry picker from the fire brigade was over the wall of the bridge and lights shining down on the river... if someone did fall in i hope they're ok...

Not to appear insenstive but is 2 ambulance, 5 fire engines and a helicopter really needed for one person?

It has happened in the past that other people have dived in to try rescue the person and that more then one emgerncy servives person has ended up in it as well.
There are no boats on stand by for the river, which is a serious enough health risk unless there is a very high tide.

Isn't there a DFB swift water rescue boat manned at all times just past Customs House?

Would it not just be based in Tara Street station for use if and when?

There is a water unit with DFB in Tara Street - or at least there definitely used to be.

DFB provide emergency Swift Water Rescue services for Dublin from 3 stations. Tara street, Phibsboro, and Dolphin's Barn. The Boat is moored at the IFSC next to the Jeannie Johnson and is manned by personnel from Tara street if needs be. Swiftwater Rescue Technicians can enter the water without the Boat being launched.
