At least you've got money in your account!

ECB interest rates at 1%, BOI aren't raking in money at the moment, you're not expecting 20% interest or anything, are you???

    Thread fail.

Not complaining about the actual amount, but about the naming fail.

They could at least call it the "Paltry Bonus Saver account", or the "'Buy a beer in 3 years with your earned interest' savings account."

Honest advice from someone who worked in BoI until recently; The SBSA was designed to replace the SSIAs and has been obsolete for years. They don't even sell them anymore. Talk to them about closing this and opening an Easysaver or something (or even another bank, I don't care anymore ;)) because that rate is never going to improve. You'll be in and out in ten minutes if you don't let them BS you.

Make sure when you post a statement on an internet forum not leave the image file layered.

wtf were you expecting to get for 700 quid??? Did you actually read the details before opening the account? Of course you didn't ;)

I only opened it to help a friend who worked in BOI as she needed to reach a quota for opening new savings accounts.

Forgot about it after that. I normally invest my money elsewhere that gives meaningful returns!

@Stee, thanks for pointing out that MS Paint can somehow retain layers (originally cropped/resized in GIMP). But did you really have to post the recovered layers publicly and letting everyone see the account number? I covered those areas for a reason you know...

Interest rate was much higher when it was opened. I guess it only lasts so long.

I was about to post something constructive about my own savings accounts until I noticed.....

    Hee hee.

What do you expect OP - sticking 20 quid a month into a bank account is just saving, not investing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,997 ✭✭✭Degag

I have the same kind of saving's account as you op, last year i got a series of letters saying that the interest rate was dropping. 4.5% > 4% > 3.5% etc etc. Pretty demoralising!

well its been edited by a mod and a got a pm telling me never to do it again. It wasnt your numbers or address, i was just messing with it in photoshop and put it random numbers. your address was "15 behind you, dublin" as per your location. Jpegs cannot be layered anyway so you've nothing to worry about! Unless however the random numbers and address are in fact accurate, which would be an extremely big conincidence.

Great stuff there. I would say "the good old days", but then, people had to try and borrow money then too didn't they? Scary. Don't want to even know what those rates were.

Years of those high rates was a factor with people going buckape with the low ECB rates of the 21st century IMO.

Hehe...fair enough, joke is on me. I never actually checked to see if the account number was correct.

I was wrecking my head trying to figure out how layers could be retained in jpegs! (insert missing smilie expressing embarrassment)

    Erm...read post #6.

You could call all savings accounts "Super Paltry Savings Accounts" - a savings account, is what it is - a way to save. If you want to make money, you need to invest*, not save.

    * = Warning your investment may go down as well as up.
