I've had a test drive of Peppermint

    http://peppermintos.com/

It's a very nice debian based distro that on my machine used about 130 MB of Ram, it comes with a lot of cloud based apps like Google Docs, if you're low in disk space it's a good solution.

    Honest question:
Apart from a few shortcuts and a theme, what's the difference between this and crunchbang?

Couldn't tell ya, but I was very impressed by the out of the box hardware recognition, and the other thing is that Peppermint is especially geared towards using online apps.

I'm not big into the cloud myself, but I think this would be a great solution for a lot of people with low spec laptops.

Sounds interesting. May give it a whirl on the laptop. Is it less useful without an internet connection?

Most of the apps are Google Prism type apps, so yeah, not much use without being online. There's nothing to stop you installing Abiword and all that, but that sort of defeats the purpose.
