Interior smoke smells - much to my chagrin!

    Hi,

Bought a second-hand car but can't seem to get rid of the scent of smoke from the interior (quit myself recently so this is quite annoying....!) Any suggestions how I can do this as the dealer told me he had the car valeted before I purchased it, doesn't seem to have done any good tho.

Read somewhere that putting a bowl of granulated coffee under the seats for a few days does the trick - anyone ever try this? How about an ioniser, and where the f**k would I get one of these :)

    Cheers,

    J

I was just looking that up yesterday,i'm moving into a place that smells of smoke, and a lot of people say that 1 part white vinegar in 6 parts water in a bowl works wonders! Also the likes of Febreeze for fabric(if the seats are fabric obviously!) should do something. Personally i'm not mad on the smell of it though..

Supposedly a jar with vinegar left overnight works. Maybe a few nights.
My gran used it in her house so it wouldn't stink of smoke. It still did though, she was a heavy smoker.

im a smoker and i use this stuff , its anti tobacco ouder, peach scented, comes in a black sprayer bottle with orange writing , i buy it in applegreen garages ,

spray it round the interior of the car then spray it into the vents below the seats and on the dash , turn on the fan with no heat and no A/C but recirculate on full blast and leave the car with the doors closed for 20-30 mins , then open all the windows and turn off the fan and let the car air out , afterwards clean the residue off all the plastics in the car (it leaves a horrible white residue) and your car will smell like peaches, that will fade after 2-3 days but the smoke smell will be gone too

Put half an onion in the car. It is very good an absorbing smokey smells

Do the vinegar thing, it works really well.

Just did it myself there recently. Big bowel of white vinegar, undiluted.

Change the vinegar after 24 hours.

When you've done that, shampoo the carpets and every bit of fabric. That should reduce it a good bit.

Scrub the ashtray, best to leave it soak overnight with some cleaning agent. Had thsi problem with a car before and saoking the ashtray in bleech helped. If using bleech, make sure the trim of the ashtray can't be danaged.

Baking soda works great, just put it in an bowl and leave it somewhere, it'll absorb the smell.

Worked for my sitting room after a pipe leaked and made a mess of it and left that horrible damp smell.

I have not tried it but I think I saw on one the car programs on tv, they said charcoal is good for odor removal.
