Cherbourg Area Accommodation

Hi, I looking for accommodation suggestions in and around the Cherbourg area. We will arrive into Cherbourg around 16.30. We're heading to les Sables d'Olonne the next day.

Basically we're looking to drive for an hour or so then get somewhere to have dinner and stay the night. We're a party of 2 adults, 1 grandad and 3 kids from 7 to 4.

As we'll have a loaded roofbox and bikes on a rack on the back I don't know if a 'formule 1' type carpark would be the safest - or would it?

    Any help appreciated thanks.

Don't even bother driving for an hour - stay in Hotel Ambassadeur on Quai de Caligny. There's a car park at the back (some of the rooms overlook it) and there are loads of lovely restaurants in Cherbourg... believe it or not

We've stayed here loads of times - the couple who own it are very friendly and it's a very reasonable 3* hotel.

Here's where I like to stop: http://www.le-fruitier.com/anglais/index.htm. Rooms good; food good; prices reasonable; free parking just in front or, if you feel you need security, you can pay for a place in their garage.

Villedieu-les-Poeles is a pleasant small town with a tradition of making pots and pans (poeles are pans) and you can buy good products there. There are also some interesting medieval buildings.
