    a fair few weeks back I contributed to a thread that slated at least one if not more, Apple authorized repair centers in dublin, one being Evad IT, which is located on the quays.

    I am an avid Mac supporter and have numerous products, and have had more than my fair share of breakdowns and replacement products. I know my way around apple's products almost better than my own house! However this is not about Apple and it's products, it's about Evad.

    2 weeks or so ago, I contacted Apple due to a fault with my MacBook Pro, purchased in january 2009, so it was out of warranty. Under the sale of goods and supply of services act 1980, goods must be fit for the purpose intended by the buyer. Most will agree that after 15 months or so, the battery in a laptop may not hold all its original charge, but my laptop turned off approximately 1-2 minutes after unplugging it from the charger. Apple said I had to prove it was a manufacturing fault that originated in the machine in the first 6 months of use. That goes against the law, but I rang Mactivate in Blanchardstown who I have dealt with for all my apple service needs and have found them good. They said they would run diagnostics on the machine and Apple would accept what they give me as proof and replace the battery, and if I had any problems I could get Apple to ring them and they would confirm this.

    Mactivate ran the diagnostics and gave me an error code and confirmed it was a manufacturing fault. I rang Apple who wanted to talk to Mactivate. Mactivate then denied that they said it was a manufacturing fault and instead told Apple that the battery was depleted, essentially ruining any chance of me getting Apple to replace the machine.

    I then remembered the thread from a few weeks ago. Dave, from Evad IT had posted saying that if anyone had any further problems with the Mac's to contact him and he'd help sort them out. So I did just that. I PM's Dave with a few details of the case and a contact number, within 2 hours he rang me and had all but promised he'd get it sorted free of charge even though it was out of warranty. He had a few different ideas on how to go about it. We agreed I'd drop the machine in.

    I went on to there website to locate exactly where they were, and drove all the way out to blanchardstown (I'm in Deansgrange) only to search for them for a while. I rang the shop only to find out they were located on the quays. It was a bit of a waste of time and fuel, and I was annoyed. I PM's Dave again and he apologised and again reiterated that he was almost certain he would be able to fix the machine. He also said he'd get the website changed and I'm glad to say it has been.

    I dropped the machine in on tuesday last week (I think) and they ran diagnostics on the machine. Dave contacted me on friday hoping to have a new battery this afternoon. I rang him today and he had found out that it wasn't in fact the battery but he suspected it was the battery connector in the machine. He said he would replace it and see how it went. I got off the phone with him at about 5 past 4 today. He has replaced both the battery and the connector and I'm told the machine is working perfectly.

    After seeing the complaints about the Apple service providers and many jumping on the band wagon and throwing in their complaints, I thought I'd post this up here to prove that there are decent people in Dublin who will look after your Apple repairs.

    I have no affiliation with Evad IT but I can promise that I will be heading there first with any future issues I may have with Apple products, well ahead of Mactivate anyway! I'd suggest giving them a try if you need their service. If I need them again, I'll be PM'ing Dave. The guys in there are great, but its very nice to be able to deal with the boss and have him get straight back to you on your issue, even if one of the other guys actually sorts it out.

    As I said, no affiliation, just a please customer offering some support. Dave can verify this if some of you are suspicious! ;)

    That's a nice good news story Alex.
    Just curious though, why did you go to Blanchardstown after finding out from their website that they are on the Quays?

    It originally said blanchardstown, as they have just moved and they hadn't updated their site.
