Want a 'vintage' convertible ...

Well when I say 'vintage' I mean only just.

    I'm thinking a 1990 320i maybe ? Something like that.

Here's what I'm looking for: Convertible; not too flashy; a bit luxurious (leather etc); a bit sporty (e.g. 120 bhp min.) but most of all; reliable.

I realise reliability will be relative based on a 20 year old car but reliable within reason - e.g. a time proven engine or model.

This will be very much a 'summer' or recreational car. Not sure what I can spend - certainly less than €5000 anyway. The less the better.

    Any ideas?

I can't find anyone who'll insure the MX-5 as a classic (had a thread about it here recently) and I've also been looking for a classic convertible.

A Mark 3/4 Escort XR3i cabby is ticking the boxes for me at the moment, provided the engine does'nt burst into flames. Also looking at Golf Clipper cabrio's (scene taxed like theres no tomorrow for the most part though), Saab 900 cabrio's, E30 325 cabrio's (finding one rust free is meant to be difficult), and the Benz SL (but that'd probably bankrupt me with parts prices).

Was thinking the same thing. I have a MK3 and my brother has a MK4 cab and we have had no real trouble with either of them. And even when we did parts were easilly got and problem easilly fixed....

I needed a cable to clip back my roof. Rang ford and they had it for me in 2 days and it was only 15 yoyos for the part. Engine is real good and all.

    Thanks all.

Like the Idea of the Audi or the Saab.

Golf/Alfa/XR3i - not what I had in mind in terms of image, good though they are.
