Paddypower disputing Robbie Keane bet

  • 10-05-2010 2:03pm

I backed Keane to score 11.5 league goals or more with PaddyPower. I went to collect today but they're saying he only got eleven goals!! I made it up twice with the results on the BBC website and he definitely got 12 in the league. His wikipedia page also says 12 (but I know wikipedia doesn't have much of a reputation for accuracy). What's the best way to prove my case?

Was there on OG?? Or a cup goal?

  • Rang customer service and they told me he indeed did get 12 league goals so to try to collect later again. :) Phew!

I presume it's the Scottish League? According to the Spurs Website, he only scored 6 League Goals with Spurs:

    http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/players/players_firstteam.html

And looking at the Celtic Website, they say he scored 12 in total in the league. That said, their site is crap, there's no stats section that I could find and some of the games don't have the scorers or reports. But from what I can see, he scored 12 in the league with Celtic.

What exactly is the point of a 11.5 or more goals. How can he score .5 of a goal?

Robbie Keane received player of the month award and they said he has 12 league goals. His total for the club is more than that as i know of 4 goals he scored in the cup. He scored 8 goals in March in the league alone.

Here's a link to the official spl site. Just select goals in the drop down box.

It's so they can eliminate paying out if the player scores 11 goals. Obviously you can't score half a goal.

Why don't they just say 'Scores 12 or more goals?'

Why don't they just say 'Scores 12 or more goals?'

Because 11.5 is the exact same thing in a mathematical sense and takes up less space. And is much easier to deal with when your primary dealings revolve around mathematics. It's just the same as picking a game to be over 2.5 goals. It's straight forward and i don't get the confusion.

Recently bookies tried to simplify odds to attract younger punters. Imho, 11.5 goals versus 12 goals is the more confusing of the two options to the uninitiated. Plus does 11.5 takes up more space than 12 if space is a premium?

Maybe this is the confusing part.
I backed Keane to score 11.5 league goals or more with PaddyPower

Lochlan Fancy Self-expression has phrased that wrong as he didn't back Robbie Keane to score 11.5 goals or more. He backed Keane to have more than 11.5 goals. Which is anything more than 11 as you can't score half a goal. It's pretty much just basic counting. I get odds being confusing for some. I use decimal as i find it easier than fractions. But when it comes to using over 1.5 goals, 2.5 goals, etc i think it's pretty much self explanatory.

I often see funny handicap better like -0.5 and -1.5 together in bets its all a bit mad!

Ah yeah the handicap betting can be confusing all right. Especially when you get into handicap draws and Asian handicaps. I was just talking about the actual 1.5, 2.5 and so forth in this thread.

Yeah! paddy power are great at that alright! it sounds about right. they done me outa E650 a couple years back, when i had backed ernie els to win the honda classic in 2008. their excuse was the bet had been struck 1 minute after the start time of the tournament. i got my revenge the following week, stuck E100 on darren clarke 28/1 to win the KLM dutch open, got me money back and then sum, no bother. Needless to say, but i havnt been back to paddy power since, two years on!

The reason they use 11.5 is to make it a two sided bet.
He can only score more than or less than.

If they used a whole number, there is the exact option.
more than 12, less than 12, exactly 12
They could use 11 or less, 12 or more, but its better the other way. Esp for serious punters. Its a carry over from handicapping

The reason they use it in handicapping is to remove the draw.

+1, +2 etc still has the handicap draw, +1.5 doesn't, two side bet again
