    Hi,

just saw in Debenhams at the weekend, various models of Dyson vacuum cleaners, reduced from €400 and €450 to €140.
I got my dyson a while back reduced to a great price and it proved to be a great investment!

We've had two (DC5 & DC21 motorhead) and both we're retired after 9 months. They're great when they work and look fantastic, but the motor doesn't seem to be able to sustain the power after a while. We've a 60 euro vax now instead, which while not as good as the dyson were when new, doesn't represent the same gamble as a 500 euro machine. Still though, at 140euro, I'd nearly be tempted to gamble again.

AGreed my dyson broke after a year would not buy another.

The dyson, we've had in our house for a couple of years is **** and has always been ****. No suction. Won't be buying them again.

None the less, it's still a bit of a bargain.

it seams that life cycle of the dysons are 9 -12 months, so dont think it's a bargain. I rather put in an extra 100 bucks and buy from another brand whre i can have it 3+ years to be honest.

    This only sounds good :p

Dysons are complete rubbish IMHO. I wouldn't take another one for free.

My mam had a Dyson and the motor just went on it after 5 years of pretty heavy use, she swears by them! She'll love this, Thanks OP :)

    No suction.
Try washing the filter (the sponge thing). My mother has the same Dyson for 9 years now. She thought the suction had gone on it, but there was a huge improvement after she tried washing the filter. You're meant to wash them every six months, she hadn't touched it in 9 years :D

Yeah, my dad didn't realise the thing had a filter. Up until about 2 months ago. After finding it, he took it out, washed it. Still the same. Minor difference, negligible really. Still terrible. Maybe I'm being a little hard on it though as we did had and industrial strength hoover just before it, which would actually pick the carpet up as you lifted the hoover head. So bloody powerful. But this dyson we have is actually terrible.

Dyson spares are relatively cheap from a business calling itself dyson-doctor on Ebay. Our motor went and it was only £20 for a replacement.

Dyson are over rated designer rubbish.

We have a Henry for the last 15 years and is still as good as the day it came out of the shop.

Dont dysons have a 5 year warranty?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,152 ✭✭✭ozt9vdujny3srf

They do, our 4 1/2 year old Dyson's motor broke and a tech from dyson came and practically replaced the whole thing. And I'm pretty sure it broke because we put cleaned filters in before they were fully dry. There was a callout charge of 90 euros though (that might be because its in the 5th year of warranty). For 140 euros they are a good investment.

For those complaining about their vacuum only lasting 9-12 months - you should have gotten it repaired under warranty rather then buying a new one. I really don't understand why so many people don't follow up on their consumer rights when goods they buy are faulty.

Well said but tbh BA has gone like this in the last while.

I've had a Dyson Dc19 for nearly 3 years and it's as good as the day I got it. Proper maintenance and care!

    Great bargain :)

big thumbs up from me too. 4 years, never an issue. At 140 a serious bargain.

That Henry was also designed, probably by someone with a cocaine problem.

tbh Im glad cos up until reading this thread all I've ever heard from friends who have Dyson's are how great they are and I was sucked in, excuse the pun.

Now after reading some bad opinions on them Im not so sure, more investigation is needed.

Back on topic- great bargain alert OP

sorry for delay in coming back with more details - I saw these in the Henry Street/Ilac centre Debenhams. There were about 4 types of model, so don't know which ones exactly.
When I got mine at a bargain price it was because a newer update was coming out so they were selling off current stock - I imagine this might be similar.
I've had my dyson for 4 years, 3 bed house and have had no problems with it.
Having said that, my sis has a nilfisk for over 20 years and had it reserviced and it still works great (bit smelly though! lol).

Pros and cons of Dyson aside, as others have said you get a 5 yr warranty. Plus, even leaving that out of it, if it lasted a couple of years at €140 its still better than other brands out there for less than €150 IMO.

Buy or not - up to you, but I just thought it was a good bargain for those who want a dyson!

We've had our Nilfisk for something like 25-30 years. I'm pretty sure that we had the motor (or whatever) replaced about ten years ago, but apart from that, not a bother.

(though maybe it's because we just don't hoover too often in my house) :p

Try Miele, you'll never go back. Not sexy just brilliant. I do love the Dyson Airblade though...

I'd have to agree on the quality based on one I had a few years back, it failed out of warranty which I think was only a year at the time. I took it apart and replaced the motor but it was the cheapest quality mains voltage motor I'd ever seen. I would not buy another at anything like normal retail but at these prices at with a warranty you couldn't go wrong. Good bargain alert.

OT warning here but I can't resist:;)
