    Hi folks

I'd post this over in the HTPC section but I'm not sure there is a huge amount of lads using Ubuntu on their HTPCs. I thought I'd try here first.

I want to ditch my sky subscription and use the dish to pick up the FTA satellite channels. If possible I also want the same (dual) card to pick up the FTA terrestrial channels which should be available to me in Limerick. I'm presuming MythTv is the way to go here, any other suggestions then let me know

I'm hoping one of you guys could recommend a card that you are using. If I need to get a seperate DVB-S and a DVB-T card then so be it. The main thing I suppose is that it will work without too much troubleshooting (I'm a newbie to linux, can u tell?) I'm happy enough with Ubuntu 9.1 for the moment but if I need to upgrade to Mythbuntu or Ubuntu 10 then so be it.

    thanks for any help

hi, i don't know much about hardware compatibility but most pci tv cards should work fine, as for the OS give XBMC live a shot, its built on top of mobile Ubuntu and runs really quickly and has support for MythTV

    check out these links

    thanks stickman,

I bought a pinnacle7010x recently but it doesnt seem to work, at least I cant get it working and I've found over at LinuxTV that it isnt supported yet so I'm kinda willing to cut my losses on this and move on.

I have XBMC installed already but I didnt realise it integrated with TV at all. Is it through a plugin?

I've had some luck with the Hauppauge HD 3000, but it's still not perfect, haven't really had a chance to try it out. My PC is too slow to record and play at the same time. I had no luck with a Cyber link one I had from a few years back either.

    try here http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Device_Information

I have a TBS 6920 for DVB-S and it works well under Linux, well any newer kernel anyway. I picked it up cheap enough on Amazon.co.uk, but I think I might of had to get it posted to the UK if I remember.
