Improving your kill streak

    Hey,

I seem to suck at getting kill streaks. The longest streak I've had is 4. Below are some of my stats:

    Level 26
    Kills 467
    Deaths 1169
    K/D Ratio 0.4
    Streak 4
    Play Time 14hrs 4mins
    Accuracy 14.35%

I normally play team deathmatch and use the Scar-H with silencer attached as primary and thumper as secondary. I have perks as Sleight of Hand Pro, Stopping Power Pro (or Cold Blooded) and Steady Aim Pro.

I guess Im the kind of player who is always moving (i.e. not a camper or a sniper). Just wondering if anyone would have any tips on how to improve your killstreak? Ive been in loads of games where team mates and opponents are calling in pavelows, harriers, etc and Im lucky if I rarely get to call in a UAV.

With the Scar-H I'd use scavenger as my first perk as its small magazines mean you go through ammo fairly quickly with it.

Depending on the maps theres different strategies, going in with the team is one, there'll be someone to back you up or you can follow behind and take out anyone who's shooting at team mates, or you can lone wolf it and go in the opposite way the team runs at the beginning and get a few kills.
Every map has a main point where most of the action will take place a lot of the time, on Favela its usually the rooftops around where the barber shop is,on Derail its always the big building in the centre, on terminal its always along the long corridor with the book shop in the middle etc. Either avoiding these areas and picking people off trying to get to them or just going gung ho and getting right into the centre of everything are the ways to get kills.

with the Scar, make every shot count, its a powerful gun but it doesnt have a big magazine so you cant afford to be just spraying away with it, you might want to try one of the LMG's for one of your classes for running and gunning, I like the RPD, once you unlock the silencer and grip to steady the aim its a beast of a thing with stopping power on, and it goes for ages without reloading (sleight of hand is essential though, it takes about 10 seconds to reload it, so you have to duck away somewhere).

When playing on Wasteland, DONT go into the underground part, its pointless, everyone goes for it and its either being constantly bombarded with grenades or full of campers and claymores, just keep doing laps of the map and picking people off, you'll always find a sniper over by the burnt out cars.

When you do start getting higher killstreaks, take your time, dont kill someone and then in the middle of a firefight throw a care package, just because you have a streak reward doesnt mean you have to use it immediately, even if you get killed it'll still be there so bide your time until you can use it safely.

Theres loads of tips on threads here and youtube videos where you can watch how other people play, once you start hitting the higher levels you'll start learning spawn points, how to control the map and where the best spots for kills are, have fun!

Although my highest is only 11, and that's pretty low by some of my friend's standard's *cough Tallon has 41 cough*, it's mainly about practice, and figuring people's habits.

Say for killstreak, if you set it to uav, care package and predator (3/4/5) respectively, get 3 kills, watch the map and just be aware of where people are. Get one kill, and the care package might hold something juicy like a harrier, and you'll get a few kills from that.

Get familiar with some levels also, say for sub base, the "middle" room is usually watched by a sniper on the metal walkway on the opposite side of the courtyard, so it's best not to run out there like a madman.

I'd personally say to switch the thumper to a spas-12 and get grip asap. It's my favourite gun by far, and with stopping power you usually only need 1 shot to kill people, and if you're storming a room, or the room you're in is being rushed by the enemy team it really helps. Just experiment with different guns and different perk setups until you find one that suits you. I find that UMP-45 with akimbo and rapid fire is soo beast for ripping through people, scavenger helps cos you go through the ammo for that soo fast

For the place of stopping power pro I personally have hardline pro, as I find I can get through people just fine without stopping power so maybe you should try a few games with that?

I wouldn't be too worried about killstreaks, yea 4 is a little low, but as long as you're having fun that's all that really matters. Took me ages to get, and I use this loosely, "as good as I am today" (still am sh1te). Practice my man ;)

Also, dont get all panicky when you get high streaks, yeah its a rush when you get your first harrier or pavelow, and I was close to a heart attack when I got my first nuke (highest streak is 32) but panicking means you'll do something silly or run into an area you shouldnt and get shot. It is only a game after all, but man, once you get your first predator/harrier/chopper gunner combo and start ruining another team, cant beat it :D

Perhaps also use claymores.Always good for getting a few kills and they also protrect your back(sometimes:))stopping ppl from flanking you.

    I would normaly use:scar-h w/silencer
    Spas shotgun w/grip
    scavenger pro
    cold blooded pro
    ninja pro
That makes you pretty much invisble as you dont show up as a target for air support+dont show up on the radar.Your footsteps are silent and HBS cant see you.
also have predator/harrier and chopper gunner.Once you hit predator it should get you your harriers which should get your chopper gunner-thats an 11 killstreak there before you even goto town with the gunship

Good advice from all, best thing you can do is find a gun your comfortable with and practice practice practice.

After sometime you will notice your k/d improve and win ratio to and you should find it easier to string together a decent killstreak ratio, mine is only 19 at the moment, and i usually go for Preadtor/Harrier/Pavelow.

The reason I dont use AC130 or Chopper Gunner is if you cant find somewhere quite to control them your going to get killed.

Here's some basic tips that everyone could probably do with following more. I certainly forget them at times, but it helps if you can use them as much as possible

    1. Don't run.
Running means that you take longer to aim. There are plenty of guys to kill, and plenty of time to kill them. Running to an area to get a kill will increase the chances of you dying before you get there.

    2. Check corners and use cover.
When you are trying to get to a certain point, don't just go there by the shortest route. Make use of all the cover on your way there, and also make sure to check any corners on the way.

    favela.jpg

Here's an example. You want to get to the yellow X to work your way down by the shacks to get to the C flag (in domination). Instead of following the red path straight to that spot, follow something like the green one. First check your first corner at the pathway beside the yellow building. Then work along the wall , and stay by the corner of the roof garden building. This way, you protect against being shot from the Crackhouse alleys, and also you are not in the open for guys coming from the C flag in your direction. When you are checking the pathway at the yellow building and going around the corner at the yellow X, you should be ADS at that point. Other than that leave your view unhindered.

There are hundreds of other examples. Terminal is another map with huge cover spots. Work your way from one to the other instead of running in the open.

    3. Revenge Killing.
Don't do it. I know it's so hard not to, but unless you spawn behind the guy, don't bother. You lose reason, rush back to a location ignoring surroundings, and the majority of the time will get killed again by someone else or the same guy again. So instead of 1 death, you've suffered 2-3.

    4. Use your crosshairs
You can't always be Aiming Down Sights, but you can always be aiming. What I mean is to always have the 4 crosshairs where you expect the danger to come from. It isn't always possible, but the more you do it, the more gunfights you will win. If someone appears where you expect them to, you are already partly aimed at them. This means when you do ADS, it takes less time to move the scope onto target. You get to aim at the guy quicker, and that half second counts a lot in MW2 since you can die so quickly. Here's two examples of what I mean, with the crosshairs turned to bold.

Good: Even as you come around the corner, the area of danger is kept in the centre of the cross-hairs. Obviously as you move around the corner, your area of threat moves too, so you need to be moving the crosshairs the whole time. Hard to convey the process by a still image, but hope you get my meaning.
    Good-Targets.jpg

Bad: As you move around the corner and up the stairs to the RoofGarden building, clearly the only area of danger is the top of the stairs. So looking down at the steps is asking for someone to come around the corner and kill you.

    Bad-Targets.jpg

Hope these help. Must try to use them again myself when I'm back online!! :D

Exactly what shawpower said, I've gotten some very high scores without airsupport following those tactics, they really work!

Try playing domination for a while , personally you get to know the maps a lot quicker with that gamemode, and you learn the usual spots on where to find people.Plus you will rank up quicker.
Unfortunatley this game doesnt help people under the rank of 29 , when you get to 29 make sure you put on ninja and after a few close kills it will be ninja pro , enabling you to move silently and be undetectable from baby monitors, since you like moving around maybe switch sleight of hand for marathon ?
Connection has a lot to answer for as well , making sure you have average ping and your not lagging.
You on xbox/ps3 or pc ?

Deffo advise the Domination, really good for learning maps because you'll often be centred around one flag for quite some time. I still find new spots on maps, found one today on Rundown even.

It's an awful spot, but I'd never known about it before.

Scavenger pro, Scar/ACR/TAR21 and claymores all the way in FFA

    try 3 5 (pred) 7 (harriers), or 5 7 11

if you can get to 4 kills, camp for the 5th (your UAV will be up), use your preditor and you may get to 7 straight from there.

try and predict your opponents moves . if your having difficulty then set up a uav . dont run blindly around the map . move towards where you expect people to be take some cover and hit them as they come . if their not coming dont wait there like some idiot move again and stop as you come to cover . the majority of my kills in a game come from someone coming from behind me . im very prepared for anyone approaching but im a little over dependant on teammates behind me actually not dying and letting someone sneak up on me .

With a silencer. Helps a lot.
