Hey, I am in Oz at the moment and my laptop has crashed to the point of no return so I am thinking of getting a new one. My question is if I get one here will I able to use it in Ireland without a converter for the voltage??

I will be using it for college next year as well, so word, excel, internet will be used, what is the minimum size screen you would recommend?

    Thanks

I have never used the windows vista OS and I was wondering is it usable or are there a lot of problems with it?

I am trying to cut down on costs, and the basic model of the laptop I am looking at comes with vista......it is an extra 75 for windows 7, is it worth the upgrade if I am only using it for the internet, skype, word and excel??

    Thanks

Its perfectly useable and millions of people use it.

Win7 is a nice upgrade and runs a little nicer on low-spec machines, but if you're strapped for cash Vista is fine. The two OSs have more similarities than differences.

Most laptops have a universal 110-240V PSU, meaning it works fine in any region. The only thing is the actual plug (that fits into the wall) might need an adaptor.

13.3" is the smallest size I would use for a 'regular use' laptop. I prefer closer to 15" if you are going to be using it a lot. Also remember that 16:9 laptops have shorter, wider screens than 16:10.

    Thanks for the replies Voodu

I have 2 more questions in regards to the laptop I am looking at.....is 2GB memory enough? and is a Intel(R) Celeron(TM) Processor 900 good enough or should I spend an extra 100 and get the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P7570?

    Thanks

RizzlaRebel, no point in having two threads about essentially the same laptops it just makes things confusing.

Apologies Voodu, when merging these two threads your replies were out of order so i edited in quotes to make it all make sense. You can change it back if you wish!

I would go for the laptop with the core 2 duo. The Celeron 900 is woeful. Unless it was very cheap, and you only want it for the most basic of tasks the celeron could be okay.

    No problem, sorry about that.

Would I need 3GB of memory or would 2GB be ok?........I think if it is easy to upgrade I would go with 2GB unless of course this would slow down the laptop by a lot!

The more ram memory the better, but you if your strapped for cash at the minute you can always upgrade your ram memeory at a later date. Check how much you can upgrade to before you buy it.
