PC DVB-s settings for Astra 2A, 2B, 2D Sats.

    HI all,

    I have a Sky Digital satellite setup which is working very well for the tv box. However, I would like to connect the satellite to my pc for freeview channels using a KWorld DVB-S 100 card.

    The satellite is facing south east, and I am pretty certain it is pointing at the Astra satellites (http://www.dishpointer.com/). Also, the dish has multiple outputs for multi room viewing.

    However, after doing various searches on the internet, I cannot find the right settings to allow my pc to receive a signal. I tried various LNB settings and selected a number of satellites from the software provided with the card, but I get no signal, and I receive no channels.

    E.G:
    if you have the older circular Sky one, it'll be

    Low Osc (KHz) 11300
    high Osc (KHz) 11300
    LNB Switch (KHz) 0

    if you have the newer oval shaped (dual throat) Sky one
    Low Osc (KHz) 10750
    high Osc (KHz) 10750
    LNB Switch (KHz) 0

    Does anyone know how I can receive freeview from this satellite? Any help would be much appreciated.

    what software are you using to find them. both dvbviewer and mediaportal do a a full scan for me and find all the astra channels, nothing required more than connecting a spare lnb to the card

    The software I have been trying to get it to work with was Hypermedia (Came with card on cd), and Media Centre.

    I will try the other software :)

    The LNB settings quoted in #1 are wrong. LO settings for all universal LNBs are:
    LO Low = 9750000 KHz LO High = 10600000 KHz LO Switch = 11700000 KHz
    or LO Low = 9750 MHz LO High = 10600 MHz LO Switch = 11700 MHz

    using either of the software i mentioned above i have never had to set any settings for the lnb, other than choose the satellite i was aimed at...

    Thanks for your responses ;)

    Well, I would prefer to know the LNB details rather than have an autoscan. But a working setup will be able to verify that my connection is working, and I could build from there. :)

    MediaPortal does not recognise my card. I don't have an option to select it as it cannot detect capture cards. And I cannot find a download for dvbviewer that's not from rapidshare.

    I am running a scan using HyperMedia with those corrected settings :) But that takes awhile.

    Mediaportal should work if you have BDA drivers installed , did you restart the pc after installing Mediaportal ?

    Right, I got a "Beta" release of Media Portal to work with my card. But it still hasn't found any channels.

    Looks like I better start checking the cables.

    if you plug a satellite(sky, freesat or similar) box into the cable does it find any channels?

    sounds to me like you have nothing coming in on the coax from the dish

    Main Sky box works. That cable is fine. Sky box on the other side of the house works. That cable is fine, but I dont really care about that box... Cable to PC through a sky box... no signal. So I just need a new cable. haha which is annoying when I want it now and have to wait to get it :D:D:D

    Turns out that a new cable worked. the settings listed above work fine (Thanks Apogee).

    I seem to be receiving many more channels than the sky box. :) Are there many satellites in that direction which are all compatible? I never knew :)
