Ireland to Finland by car

Anyone have experience / tips on travelling to Scandinavia by car? Having troubles finding the best (shortest / quickest) ferry route. I was thinking of going via Scotland - Norway (Bergen?) - Sweden (Stockholm) to Finland (Helsinki) and planning to take a few extra days of sightseeing in Norway & Sweden. Any comments are much appreciated!

If you're going for a few days sightseeing then it won't be the quickest way ;)

I know there's a ferry from Stockholm to Turku in Finland- its an overnight job. Make sure to stock up on duty free as beer prices in Finland are comparable to here.

Another option is to drive all the way to Tallin in Estonia from where there's a 90 minute ferry crossing to Finland.

Also don't forget that Denmark and Sweden are now connected by the worlds longest bridge.

im currently on a european road trip. Ive driven down through france, corsica and currently in Sardinia. Im hoping to get up to Finland via denmark/Sweden. As you loose dual carrigeways/motorways from Poland if going the other way (Estonia) Its a long way though and i reckon i'll be out of money by then!

We did this trip in 2004 but the routes have changed since there's no longer a Newcastle-Gothenburg route.

Driving through Sweden is a doddle. But instead of taking the Stockholm-Helsinki ferry, take the Stockholm-Turku ferry instead. 1. It's shorter. 2. Turku is an easier port to leave as it's a smaller city.

Most people will still take a ferry though as the bridge costs a hell of a lot more.

    Hey.
I did this a few years ago too.
I got the ferry from Rosslare to Roscoff (France), then drove through France, Belgium and Germany. Got a ferry from Rostock (Germany) to Helsinki. It stopped in Talinn (Estonia) for like an hour on the way over.
Took the bones of 5 days including Ferries, 1200km door to door in total.
For the return journey i did Hanko (Finland) to Rostock again, drove through Germany, Belgium and France again, but got the Ferry from Cherbourg to Rosslare as it was closer. Managed to do that in about 4 days.

There is no longer a ferry connection from the UK to Norway.

The easiest way to do the trip is Dublin to Holyhead (or any other route across the Irish Sea) and then Hull to Esbjerg in western Denmark. Then Rostock to Helsinki by ferry again.

But didn't he say he wanted to spend a few days in Sweden and Norway?
Instead of taking the ferry from Rostock, you can drive up through Sweden. Have you considered going up to north Sweden, into Norway and back down through Finland?
