Don't hold me to this, but I think there's one designated bank in Dublin that will still accept pound notes.

Best of luck with it anyway, nice find. (but how on earth did you forget about them in the first place?)

Thank god!! i Wonder what the exchange rate would be??? I have a huge record collection.. Was going through my old records and found the money i had stashed 12 years ago..

The Central bank in dublin continues to exchange the Irish punt for euros. Think the exchange is 1.27

You'll get them at the standard exchange rate, so about €940. You could get a good price on ebay too for them if in mint condition, people paying well above face value.

Still have no idea how you could forget about that sort of sum unless that amount is small change to you.
You simply didn't forget about a bundle of twenty pound notes.

Some people might consider it a little suspicious maybe.

I have a huge record collection and i was actually cataloging them so i could sell the ones i didnt want (Damn recession!) i was putting a record into my discogs database and the record felt a bit lumpy.. i looked inside and saw 20'ssssssssssss!!! I dumped em on the floor and low and behold 740 Irish punts!! Result.. Whats the going price for a twenty on Ebay? Failing that Central bank here i come!!

LoL. For some reason, I doubt it, seeing as I think the user is talking about Irish punts, and not english sterling...

I just looked Irish currency up on the internet. This whole time I had thought you'd used sterling before the euro. Well, you learn something every day.

I just did some research and turns out the c-series £20 note was released to the public in november 1992.. I went through my notes and i have one dated 02.11.92 how cool is that!! i think i might keep that one for a keepsake as i have a few 93's, 94's and so on but that one is from the day or so they were released!!

I put one from 1993 on ebay just to test the water see if i can get more from a private collector.. The one i put up is from 1993 and its the oldest for sale on ebay!!:D

All Irish punts can be converted to euro at exactly 0.787564

If you cash them all in at the Central Bank you will get IR£740/.787564 = €939.61

One IR£20 note would be worth €25.39, so if your ebay sale raises more than that after postage/fees etc it might be worth selling some more that way.

Good luck with it, nice to hear a good news story for a change!

I'd just go to Dublin to the central bank and make a day of it. Cash in your rags for 1K euros.

forget abiut ebay imo. Between ebay fees, paypal fees, P&p etc you get screwed.
Ebay are one of the worst companies out there.

Well the best thing about it is i cant spend it straight away!! At least now i can put a bit of thought into what i really need (thanks recession:mad:) instead of just blowing it.. I did put the one note up on ebay its actually the oldest up there by around 6 years.. ill let you guys know how i get on..
