    Hi,

Just wondering if lectures finish at 1pm on Wednesday's. Been lookig at a couple of timetables and they seem to stop then.

    Is this for all lectures?

Depends on the course. Most will try to finish about 1 or 2 on a Wednesday for sports and such. But it's not a given. I had lectures til 4 this semester 'cause of timetabling arrangements, just couldn't get the lecture at another time.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I was the same. The majority will finish at one but there's a handful that don't.

DCU told all the schools a few years ago to try not to schedule lectures after lunchtime on Wednesday to allow students to take part in clubs and societies activities.

yeah, 1 is the standard time to finish at on wednesdays, but if you're doing a science, nursing or engineering course you will generally have one or two other lectures on wednesday afternoons simply because there is no other times that the lectures can be fitted in... 31 hours a week is much harder to timetable around....

    Thanks for the info.

I'd be doing PE and Biology so it looks like the afternoons will be free, which would be great as I'll need some time for part-time work!

As said already, it's recommended that they all finish by 1 or 2. However, it's not adamant, if they can't fit a lecture anywhere else you're stuck with it. Your class rep can bring it up to a lecturer, or at Union Council, or even their Convenor if necessary.
Usually, Wednesdays are used for extra curricular stuff, SU and Clubs & Socs.

Hate to burst your bubble but PEB and the concept of free afternoons don't exactly go hand in hand.

Yeah, PEB is quite a busy course... You might have wednesdays free for the first semester, but definitely later on in the course it gets really busy...

It is against the rules for classes to be scheduled after 2pm on Wednesday, iirc. Classes can be held after this is organised with the class, but courses that require mandatory attendance (eg nursing) can't maintain swipe-records, but I could be corrected on this.

We had an exam in the library that was supposed to be Tuesday afternoon, but was changed last minute. Our class rep brought up that this wasn't allowed and we got the test a week late. (Much to the dismay of the lecturer - "well, if you don't care about the library staff as much as you do about societies then... well...fine!" :D)
