Left my car into Mechanic to be serviced. When I got it back he had repaired a broken rear light lense. He used some sort of plyable lense material that I am guessing can be bought in lengths. Was impressed with repair because A) I didn't ask for it to be repaired and he didn't mention repairing it to me.
    B) Repair is hardly noticeable , I didn't cop it for about a week after getting car back!

Eh, am I on the only one that thinks it looks awful? Good of the mechanic to try something, buts its hardly a repair, more of a temporary fix to keep the rain out.

seems to be peeling at the corner, but fair play to him for doing it though. Should keep the rain out

Nah that's an Octavia alright. I doubt the owner is too pushed if it doesn't look great, a new fitting probably costs 100 quid. Not a bad repair to keep him goin a while.

just curious, would that pass an NCT if there was a small hole underneath?? i've got one coming up this weekend, i have a small crack in on lense but no hole, on the other rear lense there is also a small crack with a hole about 1.5cm in diameter. it's an opel vectra 00', i rang a breaker yesterday for a price on the lenses alone; 50euro.

Function over form. Most definitely a choice that needs to be made sometimes.

    I'll give you added value,

Paid €150 for a full service last week, this included:

    Change of engine oil,
Change of oil, fuel and air filters,
    New Coolant and Screenwash,
    4 x new spark plugs,
    5 x new light bulbs,
    3 x new window wipers,
    Brake fluid,
    Oil treatment for noisy tappets.

Oh and an air freshener. And to top it off the mechanic collected the car and dropped it off when he was finished.

My old mechanic used to give me that kind of value as well. Then he moved to Australia... :(

I got my car through the NCT with some transparent red tape over the rear light. It was just a crack, but was sort of splintered if you know what I mean. It was a lot less solid looking than the stuff the OP has on their car.
