UP-GRADE SUGGESTIONS

Ok! All you AEG Techs & Airsoft Surgeons! I’m looking to up-grade my AEG with some quality parts, and would like some suggestions or opinions on what would be needed.

I’m happy enough with ROF, but it the up-grades resulted in a higher ROF I wouldn’t complain too much. At the moment my AEG fires close to the limit at 0.9 so I don’t want to stick anything in that will increase / decrease that.

I was looking at inserting a new air nozzle and piston etc. and would be open to recommendations.

I have already up graded the hop, so I’m concentration on the mech box.

I dont understand just what are you trying to achieve other then spend money
If as you say you are happy with the rate of fire then there is no need to spend money on a high speed motor or gear set
If your AEG has nylon bushings that you could fit a set of bearings and shim the gearbox this would help it to run smoother and decrease ware and tear on the piston, gears etc , you would also expect to see an increase in rate of fire, but why bother as you are happy with your current rate
Are you just changing the piston for change sake if so pistons range in price from $5.99 up to $38.99 and more if you wish but for what reason are you changing it just so that you can say I have an upgraded gearbox with loads of shiney stuff inside

Most people who upgrade have a goal in mind, greater rate of fire, greater range, improved accuracy or a more reliable AEG or maybe a combination of improvements
So may I suggest that you consider just what you hope to achieve and that will determine just how best to spend you money so as to achieve your new found goals, then it will be alot easier to advise you

What AEG do you have (Make, Model)?
What hop upgrade did you do ?

@ DeBurca Of course I’m not just trying to spend money for the sake of it or just so I can claim to have this or this fitted. :D

Like I said, I am (reasonably) happy with the rate of fire, but having said that I wouldn’t complain too much if I got an increase.

As for your other suggestion, I believe my gearbox has 6mm nylon bushings. Would it be practical to replace these as you suggest with bearings and shim the gearbox. I assume this would increase the life of the gearbox?

What I should have mentioned in my original post was the primary goal would be increased accuracy and range, and if that resulted in an increase in ROF then Happy Days ;)

@ Hitman. Its an AMG 416. I have already fitted a tight bore barrel (6.03) a guarder hop up unit, silicone hop up rubber and an H nub.

You could get a tanio kobas twist barrell, there about 60 to 80 quid but the range you get is amazing.

I believe it is probably the single best upgrade that you can do to a gearbox and is money very well spent approx €20ish for the parts involved
The benefits are a quieter smoother running gearbox which will decrease the rate of ware of the internal components and because you have decreased the overall friction between said components the motor have an easier life so the rate of fire increases
I have personally seen improvements in the order of an extra 100-130 rep per min from this simple upgrade

If you wish to change the piston then get a lightweight one, because being lighter it requires less effort from the motor to move so again you would expect to see a further if small improvement in rate of fire
The next thing on your list could maybe be a bearing piston head and possibly a bearing spring guide, again the idea of these is to reduce the friction between piston, spring and spring guide

There are many other things that you can do to improve things all round such as high speed motors, high speed gear sets silent piston head/cylinder head, o-ring air nozzle, dual o-ring cylinder head the list is almost endless
It just depends on how much money you wish to spend, so factor in the cost of the parts and can you do the work yourself or do you need to pay somebody to do it for you

The quickest way for somebody to increase their current rate of fire that is using an 8.4v battery is to fit an 9.6v battery instead, this is something that is easily done to most AEG although there are a few that just do not have space to fit one without a wee bit of work AUGs & DBoys Scars come to mind
But if you can do the work yourself then I would say do the bearings and shim the box first the increase in rate of fire is about the same as putting in the 9.6v battery and the gearbox will last longer

have to say the tanio koba is amazing,i have one in mine and the range is crazy,a bit pricey compared to the normal madbul barrel but well worth it in my opinion

Well I think the madbull ones are around the 60 mark so theres not a huge difference in price range.

Dunno where your getting your madbell barrels but your being ripped off. They're usually around the €35 mark (and that's in shops here in Ireland).
