Netbook plugged in, but not charging

My brand new netbook running windows 7 starter, is plugged in, but not charging.
It was stuck at 99% so i unplugged it, let it drain to 97% then plugged it in again and now its stuck at 97%. Ive googled the problem there is some cases of it, but i cant find a solution.
Anyone here come across this?

I'd guess it could be cell preserving controls. Constant topping up usually isnt a good thing so have a managed system is a big plus. Drain it to 20% then plug it in and see.

What laptop do you have?

I would try and drain it to a lower amount? it could be that the battery is faulty, if you have a HP laptop, download the battery checker which will check the health of your battery, personally I use my laptop plugged in with no battery in it.

Its an asus eec pc, any laptop ive ever had tops up as normal to 100% when plugged in, this seems strange, hopefully it some fancy power/battery managment system.
I'll let it drain down then see what happens.
Cant even return it if it needs a new battery or something, bought it in the states last week.

had this problem with my dell for the past 3-4 months. plugged in not charging keeps coming up. then one day when i plugged it back in it just started working again. it doesnt work full time now but every now and then it will work fine .I rang Dell and the said with my model its just a problem with the charger. then asked me to pay near €50 for a new one. if this is a glitch with there chargers i would have thought they should have replaced all the chargers. they obviously know theres a problem as when i told him he was like oh yes that is simply a glitch with the charger.
I dunno im holding out im not going to pay for a new one when this still works. even if its only 60% of the time!!

Old cells can refuse to charge. My Dell pack lasts 30 secs off the mains and has done since it reached about 16months:p

New pack, €145! Suck my hairy b@llox you gits.


Anyways, is it new or old? I have an old 701 here and does seem to charge sporadically.

Oh its brand new! just over 1 week old.
I let it drain down to nothing and then charged it back up do 100% as normal!
Maybe it is just some power management thing ,where it won't charge-drain-charge-drain if the battery is nearly full. That would preserve the batterys life.

Thanks, ive lost 2 laptops in the last few months.

Word of advice to anyone buying a new laptop-
DO NOT BUY ANY HP PRODUCTS
I splashed out and bought a beautiful top of the line(1000 euro plus) hp laptop.
It died less than 2 years after i bought it, Its massive worldwide issue and hp are doing nothing about.
From 18 months onwards these laptops start to die one by one
Its a nvidia graphics card problem where it fries the motherboard and the whole lot needs to be changed !
As far as i know Apple are recalling their own nvidia problems but hp wont.

I have had quite a few HP laptops with no issues.. They did offer extended warranty on ones with that nvidia issue. The fault isn't with HP, it was with Nvidia.

I love my HP laptop

here here. I've had my HP laptop die on me after 3 years of service. total rubbish and never again.
