Passport one day out of date ? Please help ! :)

    Hi everyone,

I have just booked some tickets to go to Edinburgh this month with Ryanair and have discovered that, while my passport is in date while we travel out, it is out of date the day before the day I return.

I have other ID, but Ryanair specifically advise that they only accept passport.

I can't afford the emergency passport, being a scrounging student, and emergency passports being 110 euro.

Can anyone please offer some advice on this situation ? I am thinking of just chancing it and if worst comes to worst, booking a flight with Aer Lingus who will accept my driving license ?

    Thanks a lot ! :)

You really are left in a sticky situation. You could try to change your flight to come back a day early? At extra ex[pense of course :o

Personally Id just chance it- I reckon when they look at your passport the main concern they have is that its actually you in the photo- most staff seem to take a quick glance as they are doing it hundreds if not thousands of time a day.

But if u do get caught then just act all surprised. Id arrive at check in early in case there's problems- if there is then have your driving license at the ready- Im nearly sure the local Ryanair manager at the airport would be cool about it if you have two pieces of ID.

As for immigration- I'd doubt they'd care too much as you are on your way home. If you were entering the country then that'd be a different matter...

Immigration won't care as it's a UK flight and a passport is not strictly required, it'll only be checked by the Ryanair people at Edinburgh and I reckon if they copped that it was out of date they'd still allow you to fly on it. They wouldn't be breaking any laws to do so. They used to explicitly accept expired passports as ID for UK flights in fact, wonder why they changed that.
