Hi Guys, got an offer the other day to go working with the above as a trainee auditor. Anyone any experience of working there??
I would start on a great trainee salary but just wondering what the atmosphere in the place is like. Is it one of those inefficient public sector morasses or a more progressive setup like the revenue?

I am surprised that you have not received one reply.

How did you get this plum job? Was it advertised? I didn't see it.

So, you consider Revenue to be progressive, do you? Have you ever tried to ring them? It can be a nightmare. You could finally get through to someone, ask a question, get an answer. Then ring tomorrow, talk to another person, ask the very same question, and get a totally different answer.

Anyway. Back to the question. I have never worked in C&AG's office, nor do I know anyone who has worked there. I came across a couple of characters who worked there a few years ago and they weren't too impressive in their appearance, but that was some time ago.

Grab the job with both hands!!! Go down on your knees and thank your god that you have secured this wonderful prize. Why? It's a relatively cushy Civil Service job with fixed hours, not too much pressure, a guaranteed job, and, finally, a pay-related pension at the end of it. What could be better? Yes, I know, you will say "Why should I worry about a pension, I'm only [insert age here]". OF COURSE, you should worry about your pension, look at all the people in private sector who slogged their guts out for 20 or 30 years, and now find their pension fund is decimated. That just doesn't happen in CS.

Anyhow, you'll just snigger and go off and work in the private sector.:D

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck.:)

Slasher - Please leave the public/private sector debate out of the thread - it's not really anyway helpful.

    Wha'?

Even though I wrote in a light-hearted way, I was actually being positive about working in the Civil Service. I am sorry you saw it another way. It seems the CS has become over sensitive, like some minorities, where you can't even say something positive about them without being accused of being something-ist or something-phobic.

Have just been offered this position as well, not sure what to expect from it really.

u guys should take the job, i kinda took myself out of the running way back for this to go into practice.

you start with a fairly good salary like 32k if i remember.

did u have to go through the exams, fill out essay like stuff then interviews. I pulled out then since the process took about 6-8 months for them to go through.

Personally, I remember the salary being so good that I'd not hesitate to take it.

I think it's quite small so you probably won't find anyone here to advise on the atmosphere

Did you guys have to do a case study examination as part of this? If so, and I know it was like 4 years ago now, can you remember anything about it? Like, is is pure accountancy/finance based? Do we need to be up to speed on our ratios etc? Is there anything we could/should prepare for? Thanks very much in advance!!!
