guys, i have my mates iPhone 3G in my house since Good Friday last.
My friend rang O2 to get in unlocked and has been waiting ever since.

he rang back after 16 or so days and CC said they never actually ordered the unlock from Apple, their mistake, so it was re-requested there and then.
3 weeks later, my friend has received no text or anything from O2 to say what is happening with his unlock.

he rang them again this week and they said maybe you have to keep the original sim with the oroginal iPhone number in the actaul iPhone.

anybody have any experience with this?

would the sim actually have to be in the iPhone and in use while waiting for the text from O2?

    thanks.

Check with the O2 reps (Paddy and Daryl) in boards O2 iPhone Unlock Requests they should be able to check if the unlock was requested and reuested if needed.

If it has been requested, the text will go to the number that you gave O2. if thats the SIM Card you have, it needs to be in a phone - any phone.

tried that already over on the 02 forums, i sent them a private messege but of course they wont deal with me and understandable as im not the account holder, but i just asked would they look into it as the owner is afraid of PC's, hence why he couldnt stand the iPhone and threw it in a drawer!

he wants to give it to his daughter now, thats why he is requesting the unlock.

the original sim card is in everyday use and still on 02 bill pay, just in another phone, thats why i cant understand the02 rep who told him the original sim needs to be in the original iPhone for the unlock to go through, it makes no sense imo

try doin a restore or else connect the iphone to itunes, remove the o2 sim and put in a diff carrier and then sync, ya might get a message sayin its unlocked

done all that man, my main problem is that my mate is not getting this so called text from 02 saying that his unlock has been requested or authorised.

ive synced it with 02 and meteor sims, and done restores with 02 and meteor sims inside.

did ya remove the sim after connectin to itunes, some members on o2 forum never got a text but were unlocked, when i got the message i didnt wanna restore and if i put a meteor sim in and then connected to itunes it just said it was an unsupported carrier

try it again with the o2 sim in, connect to itunes and then change sims and sync, thats the way it worked for me

so correct me if im wrong, but in this order
    • put 02 sim into iphone
    • connect to itunes
    • while connected to itunes, remove 02 sim and insert meteor sim
    • sync

    ???????

Just to note that you dont need to have the Original O2 sim in the iPhone when unlocking it. I didnt need to have it in anyway. I just put in my Vodafone sim and it unlocked.

My O2 text said to put in a DIFFERENT sim card and sync, which worked.

Mine was not unlocked until I received a call from 02 customers services. It took more than 14 days so I requested it again. Turns out I was not answering blocked numbers, which was customers services.

I don't see that it matters what sim card is in the iPhone because they don't unlock it "over the air" - you get a text from o2 saying your unlock is approved, please connect the iphone to iTunes where it will unlock and restore itself.

My unlock came through in under 48 hours.

thanks for the replies guys, as above thats my issue?
i just cant understand why the 02 text is not comming through.

02 say the unlock has been requested, but after each 14 day period they say ohh, we'll request it again, now they tell him he has to have the contract sim in the actual iPhone.
