Car insurance - provisional licence

I'm looking to get car insurance for an Audi a4 (1.8). I am 26 male driver and unfortunately (!!) I also am on a provisional licence.

I am well aware that insurance is going to cost me quite a lot but I am just looking for any advice on any good deals or where is the best place to start comparing prices.

    Thanks.

Phonebook, phone and an hour of your time. Ring everyone. Insurance varies too much from person to person to not ring everyone.

I see what you're getting at - I need to just put the time in but I was wondering if there's useful tips or comparison sites online...any ideas?

websites are really only good if you have a full license, no claims, not too young and in a normal car. If you don't match all those criteria, you probably won't get a decent quote. Given that you're supposed to have a fully licensed driver in the car with you anyway, see if it's cheaper to get them added as a named driver.

the two best companies are insure.ie and pat britton insurance. Especially Britton's for young male drivers in larger cars.

Are you taking driving lessons? When I started out with a provisional, I got insured with First Ireland (broker - who insured me with AXA), and they gave me a big discount on my insurance because I sent them a certificate from my driving instructor to say I had taken 15 lessons. I think they only were looking for 10 though. Could be worth looking into, if you're taking lessons at all.
