After many years of faithful dedication to my PS2, I've finally decided to upgrade to a PS3. What I need to know is this. What size machine. Is there any reason to get a 320gb model over a 80gb I'm not really into online gaming or buying downloaded games at the moment, although that might change. Is there any reason to get the larger hdd besides whats already mentioned.

Not unless you plan on using the PS3 as a media centre. You can buy hard drives with alotta memory for quite cheap and install it in your ps3 rather easily anyway, so I'd say get the 80 now and you can always upgrade if needs be. It'd probably be cheaper too.

Get the slim with the 120GB drive, it should be more than enough provided your not going to be storing lots of HD movies or gigabytes of mp3's on it....

Don't imagine I'll ever use it for movies or mp3s. Well catered for there already.whats the smallest size slim that I can get?

    There's only 2 slim models, the 120GB and 250GB.

Honestly, I didn't think I'd use my PS3 for half of what I do. I have a 320GB and am short on space.

Regardless of what you think now, buy the biggest hdd you can now. Upgrading later is not straight forward backup and restore. Besides, to back your 80GB / 120GB before upgrading to larger hdd, you will need somewhere to backup upto 120GB of data.

Can't speak for everyone on this but I couldn't have found it any simpler and I'm not the type of person who'd be good at that sort of thing.:)

I'd recommend the 250gb Slim, its very good and I too wasn't into some of the psn games but I've started playing some of them recently, Section8, Anarchy Racing, Hasbro Family night, Trine, CoD Classic (all have Plats hehe) & bargain of the year the full Burnout game with all dlc for just $30.

Powercity was doing a special offer with a few free games for the 250gb for around €300 - can't go wrong with that, plus some people are experiencing the ylod with the phat one, no such problems with the Slim model.

Putting the HD in is not the problem. Transferring the data from the old HDD to the new one means you need a third, external, hdd to transfer all your data.

    +1

I went for the 80gig model a year and a half ago and couldnt possibly imagine ever filling it, but i did. I then upgraded to a 320 gig so i can download movies and store my music etc, and IMO unless you can get a loan of a empty external HD off someone for the back up (either that or buy one just for the job), then its a pain in the arse to do IMO.

Go for the largest amount of space that you can, if the price isnt the same then the difference in price would be more or less negligible, but worth it in the long run.

Put it this way, its better to be looking at it, than looking for it come a years time!

It's better to have lots of memory and not use it than run out of memory.

It takes a lot from the gaming experience if you're choosing what game data to delete before installing a game.
