I'm going to await the official release. I have waited eagerly for this for a year, I can wait two more weeks.

All these leaks are ****ing things up a bit in my eyes, people rushing things out to beat the bootleggers. From the sounds or things terry took there time to get everything tight though in my book.

They tracks they've posted online have been great so far. It also hit a great review on hiphopdx.com (http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/reviews/id.1430/nas-damian-marley-distant-relatives).

Lyrics for the album can also be found here (http://www.distantrelatives.com/music/all/distant_relatives-1).

Listening now, Leaders is an amazing track, finally Nas has his focus back and some awesome production backing him up

Damian sounds great on here too, and the guest spots are all on point

The production is so crisp, this album was mixed to perfection

I can't find any faults in this, best album I've heard this year, by some distance

Most leaks are the final mastered version of the album though, the bootlegs are made from these so it makes no difference.

Album's alright. 'Nah Mean' is the stand-out track. Nas is Nas, Damien stand outs a bit more.

'Africa is the origin of all religions'...

Ummm no? Nas really isn't the brightest.

The anti-intellectualism and nativism of certain tracks is annoying as well, although that kind of ****e is to be expected.

It's decent, not amazing. Some nice production. I think a couple of tracks are longer than they need to be. I'll give it a couple more listens but I don't think it's one I'll go back to much at least not for the entire album.

Some really nice tracks on the album. Patience is probably the best song this year so far IMO. Not a weak song on the whole thing, production is strong but most importantly cohesive and the two MCs compliment each other really well.

I was expecting to be disappointed by this but no, great music.

I dont know about anybody else, but i've never been a fan of these 2 together. Listened to the album and nothing on it is going to make me change my mind. Nas is it a level now, and has been for a while, where you feel he is just going to be at for the rest of his career, a sort of mediocrity, the 3/5 rated album place. Never took to Marley anyway but he's not too bad either.

Well up to this they have only done one song as far as I know, which was Road to Zion and which is brilliant. If you didn't like that, chances are there is not much they could do to change your mind.

As for Nas more generally, in my book his last two albums have been his best work (save for that album against which all others most unfortunately be measured as inadequate). He's stopped worrying about the pop charts and started making music with some depth to it.

Fixed, he's on the path to redeeming himself with this album though so hopefully he doesn't take another nosedive.

Sorry Orizio, didn't know that wasn't allowed, got sorted anyway.

Good album but shocked to see Lil Wayne on it, is that really necessary?

Your right. I mean they have been nothing on the masterpiece that was Nastradamus. Just because he ain't with premo no more, doesn't mean its a bad album. Your saying sly fox, queens get the money, can't stop us now, fried chicken are bad? Please!

Theme is my generation - surely wayne fits. And only heard it once, but he didn't seem out of place either. Just because he's mainstream, doesn't mean he can't contribute/

He's not really all that far wrong though, after Nastradamus and Street's Disciple they are next in line imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,821 ✭✭✭floggg

Hmmm. Yes there is far too much filler on Streets Disciple but if he cut it down to one disc it could have been classic. Guess some people ain't happy unless a nas album title ends with 'matic'

Nastradamus isn't as bad as people make it out to be especially considering the circumstances surrounding it. Last Words has what's arguably the best verse of Nas' career on it and most songs on there are at least decent. Some of us Have Angel, God Love Us, Quiet Niggas and Big Girl are the only woeful songs.

And Nas and Premier have only ever done about 10 songs together. What buffonery caused you to even mention him? ****** was a **** album with a 'controversial' title just like HHID I'm glad he's put that sort of stuff behind him and is back to concentrating on the music.

Who said that? I much prefer IWW and The Lost Tapes over Stillmatic personally.

Haven't heard much of this album, but I love the songs I've heard.

Heard good things about it, I'll wait for it in the shop.

Decent enough album although far too many slow joints for my liking. I think the best tracks on the album are the two up tempo tracks: 'Nah Mean' & 'As We Enter', also I have to say it was a wise decision to get Erick Sermon on-board as Executive Producer because all of the production is rock solid.

We listening to the same album?

As we enter and nah'mean ain't the only "up-tempo" songs, although they two most "hip-hop" songs on the album.

Also, Erick Sermon had nothing to do with this album. Executive produced by Nas and Damian Marley. Its Damian and Stehpen Marley who are responsible for the excellent production.

Anyway, after listening to this solidly for a week, I have to say its simply a brilliant album. Haven't heard a bad song yet. Production and song composition is great, and nas and jr gong compliment each other really well. the guest features work, including the lil wayne spot.

its obviously not really a traditional hip-hop album, but it was never intended to be. i think it blends the two genres really well, while also taking influence from african sounds as well.

i think in years to come this will be considered a classic album, not just in hip-hop reggae circles.

Maybe it's an album that people will go back to in a couple of years time and appreciate a lot more but the consensus has been that it's not that great and I agree with that. I for one don't think it will be considered a classic though.

Funny, I haven't read anything less than a glowing review yet. Obviously its not a hip-hop album, so if that's what you were looking for then I can see why you might be disappointed. But for what it is, I think its brilliant. I'be been listening to it non stop all week.

Maybe as a fan of both hip-hop and reggae (especially the Marley clan), I find more to appreciate in this album.

I haven't read any actual reviews just the general vibe on other forums.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,834 ✭✭✭Raoul

Personally, I can't stop listening to it. Took me a few listens to get used to it. Nah mean is an absolute tune but soo many other good songs. Cant wait to see them this summer in Dublin!!

I have read nothing but great reviews for it and most of my friends absolutely love it.

Picked this up on recommendation for the general Hip Hop 2010 thread, first impressions are very positive, need a few more listens to gauge a full opinion on it as an album, has its fair share of stand out tracks for me already

Bought this album in Tower for a tenner a couple of weekends ago and my only disappointment was that the inside of the cd case was slightly damaged :D.

Quite impressed with it, reckon i'll be playing this record for months and years to come

Love Nas, but reggae doesn't do much for me, so I was hesitant in getting this album, but I was actually quite impressed. Favourite track was Patience.
