KDE fanboy thinking of switching to Xfce

    Hi,

The first time I used linux it was Red Hat and Kde and I just fell in love with it. The functionality, the look, the feel. It was amazing!

KDE 4 does not make me feel like that. It feels like my girlfriend went on holiday, and came back fat and ugly.

So I need(kind of want to) do a new installation on my laptop, and I am considering trying Xfce.

Does anyone else use it? Has anyone else made the switch from KDE?

    Anyone any thoughts?

    What distro are you using?

If you're using Ubuntu, if you want to try out xfce, just do
    sudo aptitude install xfce4

Log out, select session, Xfce and log in.

Probably the same for all Debian based distros.

    Pffffft... openbox is even lighter

Open box and debian = the new crunchbang :)

uses about 100mb of ram on startup

If you want to see how KDE4 SHOULD be done then try PCLinuxOS KDE 2010.1

The other lightweight DEs are also available

I have given up on KDE4. I like the look of Xfce so I am going to try that out.

I ditched KDE once v4 installed itself with one of the releases of Kubuntu. I went for XFCE because if its lightweight built-in compositor and have never looked back.

KDE 4.4.3 is a much different animal to KDE 4.3

I had every intention of ditching KDE based on the earlier release, but the later one is very comfortable ........ if different ..... but no different than using a different DE altogether.

The old version was great, the newer one is rubbish IMO.

I'm still using fluxbox as it's really light weight and has everything I need.
