    hi

    are the garda enforcing this,
i know quite a few people who are drawing trailers and car transporters behind their vehicle and they do not have the licence for this...

some of them have been stopped by the garda but was never even mentioned..
quite expensive to do the test i hear -probably just another money racket

you only need the EB licence if you are towing a trailer with a gross design weight of greater than 750kg. So if you want to legally tow a horse box, cattle trailer etc you need it or your insurance doesn't cover you.

Same here.. I found myself suddenly behind one of these a few months back (when the weather was darker earlier) with NO lights at all on. When he eventually pulled in so I could tell him, his excuse was that connecting the trailer lights was blowing the fuses in his jeep.

He also had what I assume was his 10-year old (ish) daughter in the front seat with him.

yes so most people out there who are towing cattle trailers and car transporters are not covered insurance wise... i don't think they even know this.or care for that matter...

what do it cost to get this EB licence from start to finish in Ireland

must be alot easier and cheaper than northern ireland then as young guy i spoke to from co tyrone had to do a test in Derry, not as only a few venues do it and he said it cost him 400stg for all... well so he says anyway

A mate done it, twice (failed first time).

Yep, it's the same procedure.. do a theory test, get a learner permit, wait 6months for the test (if first EB learner permit) and are only allowed to tow a trailer if you are accompanied by a driver who also has an EB licence.

According to my mate the road test was basically the same as the standard test but with a trailer attached and with a few amendments. You also have to be able to reverse the car and trailer around a corner, though I don't think you have "3-point" turn.

Failing the EB doesn't affect the rest of your licence.
