This has become quite common, particularly in Campus Res, where people are always trying to make a fool of people.

I ask whats the worst DCU e-mail frape in DCU history??

I did look at my user name. And it is a name I picked years ago, because I'm tall...

The smack comment is basically identifying my dislike for people using other people's personal accounts, email/fb/whatever,to make them look like a fool.

I would hope that my friends would not resort to using such moronic tactics for humour.

I don't know if moderators can see IP addresses but if you were to look at all these troll accounts being set up to terrorise the DCU forum, I'm pretty sure they'd all have the same IP address.

Moderators can't but Admins can Clever trolls use public networks to do their trolling. If this guy is a DCU student he could be using any of several computers, if we IP ban that machine or domain then a lot of DCU students would be unhappy

I'm happy to just keep banning accounts, it only takes seconds anyway

I hate to dig up old threads, but this thread immediately came to mind when I saw this email that was sent to 5 entire second year classes:

Not an email hijack just a keyboard warrior who bit off more than he could chew. Many years ago back in 1st year CA this guy in our class was getting frustrated with some peoples antics in the labs. The second years were (seemingly) quite agitated with our behaviour and made it clear to this gentleman, who decided to mail the class list and basically chastise all his class mates for their behaviour.

Now this may have been taken better say if we were in second year or if he worded it a lot better, needless to say he received a barrage of emails back (all copied to the class list). The thing grew legs and he was made a holy show of... the insults were hilarious but quickly grew very coarse to the point where one email said "shut up! you've a face like the back of me sack!".

Then everyone got a mail to the list from the year head, there was a disciplinary hearing as we first years didn't know the class lists were monitored. The guys who did most of the abuse were fined I think and had to hand in their student cards for 2 weeks so they couldn't use the college facilities.

The guy was pretty quiet on the class list for the rest of his 4 years, most of the lads who verbally abused him dropped out.

It was pretty simple to make it look like you were sending an e-mail from any address you wanted with the old system pre google apps. It was only used for harmless pranks.
