I have a Technomate 5200 USB Super+ Sat receiver, with a WD320 GIG HDD plugged into the USB port > I am very happy with it & it records just fine, (but the memory is filling up quickly), does anyone know if a mains powered "one Terabyte" memory would work in place of my WD Passport Essential. I have been told that a 'One Terabyte' HDD is too slow to initilise, (it might take 60 or 120 seconds to start up), in which case this would be hopeless! but that the smaller 500 Gig HDD would work just as well as my currewnt 320 GIG HDD.

    Any ideas anyone?

I have a 250GB WD MyBook, which requires its own power unit.

I find mine does as you suggest - take too long to fire up and my Technomate (TM6900) stops looking before then. It's always hit and miss whether the TM will see it or not. Usuaully, I'd have to fire up the MyBook first, then power up my TM for it to be recognised. This is all fine and dandy until the WD winds down after an idle period.

Maybe newer MyBooks have quicker "power up from idle" times than my 2 year old MyBook...
