I've been interested in these 70's Toyota Celicas for a number of years now and in time I'd like to own one, however, to this day I've never actually seen one in the flesh. I've read quite a bit about them and from the online pictures I've seen of them, I think they're as nice a car as there is but as I've never seen one up close I've no idea what size it is.

If anyone here has had one or is familiar with them could you give me any indication of their size, if possible in relation a modern car.

And feel free to add any other bits of information about them that you have. I fully intend to buy one within about the next five years, probably later rather than sooner, unless a good opportunity presents itself.

The celica in the pic is a RA25 which wasnt avaliable in the Uk or Ireland we got the ra28 liftback & the ta23 coupe which is the classest celica imo, how much are you willing to spend & may be better to get one now rather than in 5 years time, there was a collector in wicklow or wexford that had a few for sale earlier this year ra28 & ta23 irish reregistered cars ( genuine Irish car would be mega rare), but beware the rust cos they did!

    Thanks for the info....
If I was to buy at the minute I could afford about 2K, up to 4K at a stretch but I think over the next few years I should be able to add a bit more to that fund. There's a nice one for sale in Galway but it's not the liftback version and I'd prefer to wait for a liftback in case I later regreted it. I wouldn't mind getting one that needed a bit of body work that I could do over time.

You seem familiar with them, in terms of size, is it quite a small car or would it be as big as a modern Celica?

they are quite a bit smaller than the modern celica, there are many different versions of celica but to be honest 2k will only buy **** even at spending around £6500 stg which one recently went for in the Uk & the new owner found much to his dismay that it needed body work & yes i do know these car very well inside out in fact, so fat wallet needed if you want a good one i am afraid, best bet for a really sorted rhd ta22 would be Australia so in reality you would need circa 10 grand to buy & 3 to 4 to get it here safe.

 It'll certainly be later rather than sooner then, but it's still my goal to have one eventually. Thanks for all the info.

I've seen the second one before but not the first. That's quite nice, exactly what I would be looking for but I'll also have to consider Rust or Weld's advice.

If I were to buy and import this, when registered, would the reg number have to be 75-X-1234 or is it possible to have old style reg number, such as XYZ 789?

I'm pretty sure that one was for sale in CBG about 4 years ago for €2500. Either it was a misprint, or he realised it was well underpriced.

from the photos the red one looks in much better condition and you wouldnt see 2k going in getting the black one near the red ones condition just my opinion

Always liked those cars, they remind me of the Ford Mustang. Those mirrors would have to go though.

with those mirrors they kinda remind me of a Datsun 240z.

ANyway ive seen one parked in Blanch shopping center one time. I took photos Im sure i have them some place ill check when I get home from work. Also the pics show other cars around it so ill try to find em for ya.

ALso with classic cars the longer you leave it to get one the more expensive they get.

Do you think that's genuine? Great value if it is. I think I'll be making a trip over to see that.

And it became elegible for classic tax and VRT two weeks ago!

Surprised he didn't take the time to give it a wash with a bucket and sponge and a lick of a hoover before he took the photos. Wheels look like 80's US wheels. Interesting car, worth a look maybe.

Hello, I'm from Just Outside Newry and am currently doing up a 1976 TA23 1600 st celica. I stripped the car about 5 years ago and only got back to it a few months ago.

I'm having problems with the wiring and i'm also missing the piece which connects the carbs to the accelerator.

I was wondering if anyone in Ireland has the same model of car which i could come and look at. I need to see the way the wiring is meant to be to see am i missing part of the loom and i also want to photograph the mechanism for connecting the accererator cable to the carbs so i can get one made

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My number is 07511533949

Rust or Weld Isn't Ireland a small place, can't believe you remembered who i am. How is your celica coming on, i took a 4 year break from doing anything to mine while i wandered around Australia for a while. Would you mind if i was to call up some night and have a look at your celica, i'm away for a week from Wed but maybe after that. I want to get a big push on in the next couple of weeks with getting it built back up
