I live in an apartment and there are shared normal and recycling bins.

I never know what I can and cannot put in the recycling bins.

For example, is paper, aluminium cans, tin cans ok to put in there?

    What about glass?

    Glass- you usually can't.
Plastic is ok for most green bins, however

Check out the website of the service provider (Ozo, Greyhound, etc.) - I'm sure it will list what they do and do not recycle.

Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know if you can put envelopes with plastic windows in the bin or do you have to tear off the plastic windows. Heard way back you had to but this maybe an urban myth, I still do it but it would make more sense to recycle the lot if you can rather than landfill the plastic window bit.

    cheers:D

I think the recycling process can filter out contaminants like the plastic window bit. Obviously better to rip it out, I think, but not the end of the world if you just throw the whole envelope in.
