Just thought Id start a thread to see what peoples experiences are with weight cutting, so...

    How do you cut weight?
    How much? methods, theories thoughts!
My own cut goes something like the following...
    • 8 weeks out il be about 78 kilos
    • Over the first 7 weeks il diet down to about 74 kilos
    • final week il drop carbs, get down to 73.5
The question I really want to answer is how to cut these last 3/4 kilos, generally il use a combination of:
    • Stopping fluid and Food intake 24 hours before weigh in (48 hrs before fight)
    • Dandelion root for diruetic, spirlina and aloe vera oil to move out food waste
    • whatever is left after those processes, generally 1.5/2 kilos, il cut in water weight via sauna/salt bath/exercise
So what do you do? 2 things have been bothering me, which is the best method of water loss, the sauna or bath or exercise? and would it make more sense instead of stopping water intake 24 hours out, stop 5/6 hours out and Lose it all via sauna? this way the body would spend less time dehydrated?

There is a lack of research on the subject so Im hoping ye educated folk on here can help me.

Also post your methods, interested to know how people do it!

Have only cut weight once and was an easy enough cut. Im a fairly lean 84 6 weeks before hand. Thats when i start cutting out fizzy drinks and step up my training. 3 weeks before hand i was 82. I start eating smarter then and start drinking much more water. 4 days before weigh in was 80. The day before the weigh in i stopped eating at half 1 and stopped drinking at 6. The next day i woke up 78 and by weigh in i had pee'd and sweat out the last kilo to weigh in at 77.1.

I generally do a 10kg weight cut to make 90kg, although I have come down from as much as 103kg, I start 5 - 6 weeks out depending on how heavy i am,
I'll clean up the diet and drop 1.5kgs a week , normally 2kgs comes off the first week, I still have a cheat meal every Friday providing I have hit my weekly target.
I aim to hit 94-95 1 week out then cut right back on the carbs to get to aprox 92ish the day before and drop the the last 2-3 kilos in fluids. I drink a lot of water,5,4, and 3 days out cut back 2 days out and none the day before after 1 o'clock -lunch, I use dandelion root and vitamin c too. some times I use sauna etc if I need it that morning.
Then once I make weight, I rehydrate and carb up , small high carb meals every 2-3 hours, normally 95-96kg next day at competition.
Its a fine art, the more you do it the better you will get at it, you will learn what every bit of food etc does to your weight and how your body reacts, Its half the battle with competing!!:D

I know nothing constructive on this topic as I am terribly fat. But I remember watching an episode of TUF where a fighter was wearing a sweat suit, on an exercise bike, in the sauna!

He collapsed shortly afterwards. Needed to cut about 13 lbs in 2 days or something silly. Missed by half a pound or so in the end. One of those times where a guy came into TUF for a MW competition and arrived weighing about 220 lbs!

For my last fight at middleweight I cut from 96 til 83 in 1 day by just not eatin or taking any fluids plus gettin in sauna for 2 hours wrapped up like Eskimo. Felt terrible but once got grub and fluids back into me I was brand new. Didn't feel like I was drained goin into fight but wouldn't want to cut from that weight again. I went into the fight at 96.8kg. 10kg would be my max I would wana cut from now on. I just couldn't train properly cause I had a broken left hand and couldn't spar, hit pads or bags. I think the higher the level the bigger the cut.
