Portugal: Car Rental For Young Drivers

    Heading to Vilamoura at the end of the month and looking to book a car in Faro. I'm 21 with the full licence for 3 years. Two questions are;

    1. Will my age cause problems?

    2. What's the likely budget I'll need for 7 days. A Fiesta etc will do but I'll want to add in GPS. I'm getting ~€140 from different websites but I'd like to see what it cost someone here already for the week in total if possible.

    Cheers.

    I don't understand; are you looking for someone who has already booked the same car for the same week?

    Different dates and different pickup/drop-off points will result in different prices for everyone.

    If you're getting a quote for £140 for 7 days I wouldn't think twice about taking it.

    min age is usually 21 with 12 months on your licence.

    Be aware that those websites often say in the small print that the price quoted is exclusive of young driver surcharge which is to be paid locally. This generally comes in at about 15 euro per day, but depends on the company. In Europe it is generally applied to all renters under the age of 25. That will add approximately another 100 euro to your hire, at a minimum.

    Smaller local rental places on the continent tend to be more negotiable in terms of young driver supplement.... but perhaps you intend picking up at the airport so that is not an option.

    Just looking for a general benchmark i.e. someone who was in a similar situation to me - what they paid?

    Hey hope I am not to late. Try Master Kings they have a Opel Corsa for £113.00.

    Min age for Portugal is 21 although some companies may add a excess for under 25's due to insurance policy restriction in Portugal.
