How do. Myself and a couple of friends were talking about this last weekend. I remember there was a (fairly crap) tv program on RTE a couple of years ago where the public would send in dares and one of them was for the two presenters (think they were comedians) to set foot in every county in 24 hours and IIRC they just missed out by less than an hour.

So do you think it could be done? What would be the best route to follow???

it can be done. The lads on the tv stopped for stupid things. Messing at signs etc. Eating in chippers. Just get the food and eat in the car. Swap driver and let each other eat / rest. It can be done.

Most cities have bypasses anyway, so Dublin has the M50, Cork has one too, as does Limerick, so I'm sure it could easily be done.

If started going south, you would be Wexford in under 2 hours from Dublin, then down to Cork in another 2 - 2.5 hours, Kerry would be challenge as some roads wouldn't be the best, but up to Limerick and then up to Galway would be fast enough..

I reckon if you left Dublin at say 8pm in the evening, you would be in Galway easily by say 5 or 6am.. From there it would be tough going up the west coast to Clifden, Westport, Castlebar, Sligo, Donegal..

Once you hit Derry, the road isnt too bad over to Belfast, then down to Dublin would be easy going, 2 hours at most.. maybe a bit more with traffic..

Yeah you would do it in 24 hours if you had like 4 people sharing the driving.. 1 driving, 1 navigating and the other 2 sleeping..

Your sort of forgetting the midland counties there. Its not to get around the coast - its to get to all counties (hmmmm OP 26 or 32 ......indeed for that matter is Dublin one county or three ???)

32 counties, and going by county, not county council. So Dublin is 1 stop not 3, tipperary 1 not 2 etc. I'd say it could be done alright. I was looking at the map yesterday and i reckon you could get to all counties in 800 miles. So it would be a challenge to cover it in 24 hours but definitely possible i reckon

    why not?
Cos it's stupid, and a little pointless?

Need to stay away from the coast to catch the edges of the midland counties I think.

Starting at the kerry/cork/limerick border, google maps reckons 17 hours (think that's all 32, albiet barely entering a few of them).

Even if you're starting in dublin, i'd say you could just complete the loop from tipperary to rockchapel and still make it in 24 hours.

Not all driving is done for commuting and for getting from A to B,some of us enjoy it.

I don't think the driving is stupid, or pointless. It's the ''within 24 hours'' which is stupid AND pointless.

It's a shame, but I doubt that all of the boarder crossings would have signs.

Clonmel is in Tipperary so you wouldn't need to go as far as Tipperary Town.

Anybody who does it must bring a laptop, 3g dongle and post regular updates.

Aye twas Andrew Stanley and Damien Clark did it for 'I Dare Ya'.
They tried the 32 counties, started in Brittas around 6pm, Andrew was an L plate at the time so they couldn't use any of the motorways.

Andrew said to me before they'd have done it if they'd not stopped for so long with food or doing retakes at certain places. So it can be done, you'll just be either knackered or wired when you get back lol.

Two part youtube here and here if you're interested in figuring out their route.

I just tried it with aa routeplanner........... could take as long to plan the route as driving it like.

Friend of mine did it with 3 other lads while in garda college, they did it for charity. They had to get a stamp from every main garda division/station in that county i think.I'm fairly sure it was 26 counties though.32 could be done no bother..
