Windows movie maker has stopped working

leading on from this query I had VOB files and I converted them to AVI. Now when I use Windows movie maker, I can import file but as soon as I try and do anything with it I can the message that Windows Movie Maker has stopped working. Have updated it. Running on Vista, and file is 21 minutes long.

If you are just cutting out a bit from the beginning or end of the video you can set mark in and out points with Mpegstreamclip or FormatFactory and just convert the exact part of the vob you want.
