Trees for privacy

I'd like to plant some trees at one side of the perimeter of the site my house was built on. The road sort of overlooks the site/house on this side and cars are always pulling up there and overlooking us. As such we have no privacy and it's even a bit of a security issue I think. Can anyone tell me what would be the best…

If it is just to screen the road, you would be better off with shrubs/hedging. Trees will leave spaces just at the height you are trying to fill. It does depend how much space you have too.

In that situation I would be inclined to put in some tallish shrubs - lilac, viburnum, hydrangea, weigelia praecox, dogwood.

You are not going to get instant height with anything, most of the plants mentioned are hardy and vigorous, but you can expect to wait at least 3 years for any useful height.
